Ch.2 Survival

Everyone gave their attention to the twins, as it seemed that they were the announcers.
They then explained how they had demons trapped on Fujikasane Mountain who were captured by other demon slayers and are unable to leave.

"The wisteria, which demons hate, grows on this mountain and blooms year-round."
The black-haired twin explained.

"However, from this point on there will be no wisteria. And so, demons will bound."
The White-haired twin said.

"In order to pass the final selection, you'll need to survive here for seven days."
The black-haired twin finished.

They both sent a farewell in sync
"And now, be on your way."

Everyone then began the final selection by setting out into the forest of demons.

Y/n was the first to leave after getting the straightforward explanation. She felt a tug on her pinky again. She decided to ignore her string until she passed the test.

She ran carefully into the forest, trying to focus on the mission at hand, yet her mind wandered to her string of fate bound on her pinky.

Y/n stopped and looked her pinky once again.

Why had her string only now have someone at the other end? It made no sense.

They say your string doesn't have another person on the end until you know their name. Y/n never had any experiences in this matter as she stayed in the mansion of Ice most of her life.

She had once asked her father about it but he completely avoided the question and continued training her.

Y/n was so confused. She kept staring at her pinky wondering and questioning why.

She then sensed the presence of demons and went on attack mode.

Y/n unsheathed her icy blue sword her father had given her when she completed her training.
Supposedly it was a sword capable of killing demons. Her father called it a Nichirin sword.

Suddenly, a demon came from behind y/n and she blocked the attack with no effort. The demon kicked y/n away but she was not fazed.

"HehEheHE! Finally, a human to snack on."
The demon lunged forward at y/n but she was maintaining Total Concentration.

"Breath of Frost First Style: Fractured Snow."

Y/n lunged forward to meet the demon with a single slash of her sword that slashed like cracks in the snow, decapitating the demon.

Y/n began to walk away but stopped after hearing a shrewd voice.

"You'll never fit in, Half-breed. They'll kill you once they find out. And when they do...."
The demon began cackling as their body disintegrate and their head faded into ashes.

Y/n disregarded the words of the demon and continued her current mission of surviving for 7 days.

But, Y/n knew in the back of her mind that the demon was right.
Even if he was, y/n wouldn't let that stop her.

She took another glance at her pinky before running deeper into the forest.

A small part of her hoped the person on the end of the string would accept every part of her.

Even if y/n was half-demon.

6 days have passed and in that time Y/n has slayed 7 demons.
She would've slayed 11 when she saw the cloud haori boy battling an excessively large demon.
She watched the battle unfold but soon left when she knew he had it handled.
Y/n only encountered 3 other slayers, each of which were not part of her list of the troublesome.

On the final day, y/n sat in a tree and stared at her pinky and string until they announced that the test was complete.

Y/n silently walked back to the top of Fujikasane Mountain, her face keeping the same blank expression throughout the entire walk.

Once she made her way to the top, she saw only 2 others, the butterfly hairpin and the crazy eyes. The twins also stood on the platform waiting for the other survivors.

The butterfly girl didn't seem to pay attention to anything other than the butterflies that flew around her.
Crazy Eyes seemed like he was glaring at something but Y/n couldn't figure it out.

Y/n found herself staring at the butterfly hairpin, wondering how she could smile, her answer came quickly. She was human.

Y/n envied her.

Her one e/c eye had shed a tear but Y/n still showed no emotion on her face whatsoever.
Her tear quickly dried up. The butterfly girl noticed this but made no effort to show it.

Soon, the other surviving slayers showed up.
The cloud haori was last.

The twins started to speak and announced that we were the only ones to survive. They then proceeded to explain the ranking system for demon slayers and told us we were the lowest rank, Mizunoto.

Everyone received their own Kasugai crows which were explained to be mainly used for communication.

Crazy eyes complained about getting a sword and the Twins told them they were going to receive their uniforms with the word 'destroy' on the back.

Crazy Eyes made a scene, grabbing the White-haired twin's hair and demanding a sword.

Y/n made no effort to stop him, as it had nothing to do with her.

She watched as Cloud haori threatened to break Crazy eyes arm and the Black-haired twin stopped them.

The twin then proceeded to let them choose an ore for their sword.

Cloud haori picked his ore first and
Y/n next.

After receiving all the necessary materials, y/n made her way back to the Mansion of Ice to meet with her father and wait for her new Nichirin sword to be forged.
