Ch. 6 Owls and Cats and Racoons, oh my!

As you all were walking, you had that gnawing feeling in your gut that it was you who made him feel like this. You try to brush it off and not to worry about it, like Akaashi said, but it only made you worry more. You're still tangled in the messy web of thoughts flowing through your brain when someone taps you on the shoulder. It was (bff),
"Oh! Hey whatsup?"
You ask, you didn't know how long you'd been zoned out, but it was obvious that it hadn't been long.
"Just checking up, you doin' alright? Tired, hungry, sick, mad at me? What is it? I'm desperate!"
She said dramatically getting a laugh out of you.
"Yea I'm a bit peckish right now, you know I zone out a lot when I'm hungry. Its like I'm a robot going into power saving mode!"
She laughed,
"Yeah that's true! Maybe you ARE a robot. A very squishy one that cries when watching movies."
"Hey! That was one time and you were crying too!"
You both bickered about movies you cried over and whether it was justified for a bit, when you suddenly remembered you had no clue where you guys were going.
"Hey, (bff), do you know where we're going?"
"No clue, let's ask Akaashi."
She said as she turned to look at him.
"Hey akaashi, where are we going?"
"How would I know? It was Kuroo's choice this time and he doesn't say anything about it to anyone."
Great. You didn't know the other two very well so you didn't bother to ask. You wanted to talk to bokuto, but he had his earbuds in and didn't seem to be in the mood to talk. You glanced over to see if he was at least looking better, but looking at him just made you want to cry. You trudged forward and started chatting with (bff) and Akaashi. After about ten more minutes of walking, you guys finally reach your destination. It was a cat cafe called Calico, you'd heard of it before but never really had time to visit it. (Bff) looks at you excitedly, she was the one that wanted to visit it more than you, she was actually the one who showed it to you. You were pretty excited too, since it wasn't just cats, it has other animals as well.
"Oh my God I'm so excited! I bet the cats are gonna be super cute!!!"
(Bff) said while shaking you. You were still dizzy but excited as well. You had never been to a cat cafe, but you were an animal lover to the core so you were always interested. Your dad was allergic to cats though, so you never had one nor went to anything with cats unless it was at a friend's house. You walked in and sat down.
"This is one of the best cat cafes in Japan, and a personal favorite of mine."
Kuroo said.The waitress came over and he immediately began flirting with her. He was a peculiar character but in a similar way to Bokuto so it was comfortable. You and (bff) ordered the tira-mew-su and the cat-uccino.
"Is that all you two ever order from cafes?"
Akaashi asked in a slightly joking manner, which shocked you a bit since he always seemed so stoic to you.
"Yeah, its kind of our thing!"
(Bff) stated as she slung her arm around your shoulder.
"Yeah! I got her addicted to it so now its all we ever order."
You add, swinging your arm around shoulder. It is true that you both always order a classic tiramisu and a cappuccino. Its because of your grandparents bakery. They make the best tiramisu in all the world so you and (bff) have been chasing that sugar high ever since trying to find one that can compare. All have failed in your opinion.
"Oh yeah! (Y/n) we're gonna visit your grandparents this summer too, right?"
(Bff) asked looking at you with puppy eyes.
"Well duh! We visit every summer why would this one be different?"
You say, the food comes out a few minutes later and you all dig in. And just like before you sigh, its still not as good as grandmas. (Bff) sighs along with you, you all continue to chat and eat when you feel something brush up against your leg. You look down to see this grey cat with patches of black scattered throughout its coat.
"Awwww (bff) look! Its so pretty!"
You say to her as the cat looks at you.
"Mrow!"
It meows at you while stretching up and putting a paw on your knee. You pet the cat and it begins to pur.
"Hey it looks like patches really likes you! I mean she likes everyone but she's just loving up on you right now."
Kuroo says from across the table.
"Hey, you said you've been here before right?"
You ask while scratching patches under her chin.
"Yeah why?"
"Well I've heard they have other animals besides cats, is it true?"
Kuroo was still stuffing his face when he looked up at you, swallowed, then smiled.
"Of course they do! They've got meerkats, raccoons, and even owls!"
He said owls slightly louder, to try and gain the interest of our lonely sulky boy. Who was still not in the mood to talk. It surprised you a bit when you noticed jim perk up a little. You had an idea of how to get him talking again, so you turned back to Kuroo,
"They have owls here?"
He looked at you for a moment before catching on to what you were trying to do.
"Yeah!"
He almost yelled. Standing up.
"You guys wanna see them?"
He asked.
"What n-"
(Bff) started to say before you nudged her. She looked at you for a second confused until you nodded your head vigorously.
"... I would love to!"
She said standing up quickly. You stood up as well and the others followed suit
"You coming with us bro?"
Kuroo said to Bokuto. He looked around to see you guys all standing waiting for him and reluctantly standing to join you. Kuroo took you all to a back room where the owls were. You were told to wash your hands and keep the noise down since an owls hearing is a lot stronger than a humans. You walked into the room and the owls looked at you curiously. You had all packed into the room, Bokuto being last. He seemed to be feeling better after he walked into the room, he wasn't back to being loud and obnoxious, but he did seem calmer. It brought a sense of ease to your mind. As you walked around the room greeting the owls, one flew over and landed on your shoulder. You looked over and giggled.
"Hello there."
You said as you scratched the top of its head. It crept down your shoulder close to your elbow and you wondered if you could hold it like a chicken. You knew it was a predatory animal so you didnt want to risk getting scratched, you gently and slowly pulled it close to your body. It seemed to enjoy this, and nestled into the crook of your shoulder.
"Jesus christ what are you? A Disney princess or some shit?"
Kuroo said to you in a joking manner. You look at him confused until you feel more pressure on your shoulder. You look to see yet another owl on your shoulder.
"Huh, I guess I am."
You say holding back a laugh. You turn to see Bokuto in a similar situation, but there's an owl on his shoulder and one on his head. You laugh and turn back to Kuroo,
"That makes Bokuto a Disney princess too."
You say pointing with your head, trying not to disturb the owls perching on you.
He looks at him and laughs, at least you think he laughs? You weren't quite sure, it was... unique to say the least. You watched as he walked over to him and they talked for a bit, they both laughed and you felt relieved. It seemed like he was feeling better. You all hung out with the owls for a little longer before you decided that you all wanted to see some of the other animals. You put the owls back onto their perches and left to see the meerkats. There were only about 4 or 5 meerkats but they were still very cute. They sniffed everyone and started running around and playing with each other. You guys sat in there for a few minutes before becoming bored and wanting to go back to the cats. Kuroo had stated that they had a whole room for cats just to play with, so you guys went there next. You walked in and it was just cats everywhere! This is also where they kept the raccoon, there was only one and it got along well with the other cats so there wasn't a problem. You all started playing with them and they seemed to really like Kuroo Kenma and you. They mainly hung around you three, but would obviously play with Bokuto (bff) and Akaashi every once in a while too. As you were petting the raccoon that had decided you were the best place to nap, you heard Bokuto yelp. You turn to see that he had just gotten scratched by one of the more feisty cats. The cat ran off and Bokuto looked like he was about to explode. He got up and ran out of the room. You turned to Kuroo silently asking if you should follow him to which he nodded. You moved the raccoon to the ground and went after him.
