• shawn •"This place is dead." Andrea comments after an hour of us being at the pharmacy. She was right, barely anyone was coming around. She did her homework on the floor behind the counter as I stood by the cash register. "And I'm hungry."
"Want something to eat?" I ask her and she nods her head.
"Can we go to Wendy's?" She smiles at me with a pleading look and I laugh, saying yes.
"I'll ask my dad if I can leave early," I tell her before hopping over the counter and going to the back to find Jacob, a boy around my age that I work with. "Jacob!"
"Yeah?" He calls out, popping his head around the corner behind some boxes.
"Can you work the cash register? I have to leave early."
"Sure," he smiles, "no problem."
I thank him and we walk back out to wear Andrea is helping someone at the counter. Oops, I didn't think anyone would come in.
"Andrea, we can leave. Jacob is gonna work the register." I inform her after the lady she was helping walks off to find whatever it was she was looking for.
"Okay," she replies, grabbing her backpack and walking up to me. She gives Jacob a small smile. "Hi, I'm Andrea."
"Jacob." he says and I pull her to my side before he tries to flirt with her or something.
We say goodbye to Jacob, and I text my dad to tell him I had to leave work. He won't mind, I don't think. Andrea and I walk to my car and I carry her backpack for her just because.
We sit inside Wendy's together and she eats her nuggets while I eat fries because I didn't have much of an appetite at the moment.
"I think you're really pretty." I say to her out of the blue and she laughs quietly.
"You do?"
"Yep, really really pretty." I smile at her.
She shakes her head with a smile on her face. "You're a weirdo."
"I'm just telling the truth." I shrug. "You're just beautiful. I like everything about you."
"Why are you telling me this?" She blushes.
"I just want you to know that I admire you."
"Shawn... this is weird."
"Why?"
"I just... I never have these types of conversations."
"Probably because most people know you don't like them," I say. "I know you like to avoid relationships and falling in love, but you should give it a shot."
"Yeah, if only someone would actually fall in love with me." she rolls her eyes. She's so oblivious, isn't she?
"Maybe you should give someone a chance to."
"Like who?" She raises an eyebrow.
I smile, "I have someone in mind."
