"What?" the giant snarled. His voice boomed as he stared down at the guard from his throne.

"She claims to be your sister, and she requested to see you," the guard explained, "Though, I don't see how she could possibly be your sister, Your Majesty."

He snorted. "Send her in for execution."

The king was known for his brutality and no nonsense ruling. He was quite literally a war lord and had won his vast kingdom after years of conquering.

The guard scurried out and soon returned with a small human in his clutches.

            "Baron?" she squeaked out.

The king leapt from his throne and quickly took the human from his guard's hands. He adjusted his hands, so they were gently cupped around her. She just smiled up at him nervously.

"This is my sister," Baron explained, "Thank you. You are dismissed."

"But Your Majesty, she's a human!"

"She is my sister," Baron growled, "Leave."

"We're adopted," the human explained softly.

Once a giant king fell in love with a human man. For obvious reasons, both species and gender related, they couldn't have kids. Thus, they adopted one human, Claira, and one giant, Baron, to raise as their own.

The guard looked between them one last bewildered time before nodding and briskly leaving the room.

"Claira," Baron lifelessly muttered, pulling her suffocatingly close to his chest.

Claira pushed against him. "I missed you too, but I can't breathe."

He drew her away from him. A big, goofy smile sat on his face.

"I missed you so much. Why didn't you come visit earlier?" Baron pouted.

"I'm sorry. I meant to. I guess I was just a little nervous." Claira admitted.

            "About what?" Baron asked.

"This is just all so much. You have an empire where the sun never sets, and most of your subjects are way bigger than me. Plus, I almost got executed on my first visit." Claira explained.

"In my defense, I thought he was talking about a giant pretending to be my sister. He never said you were human." Baron argued.

Claira laughed delicately. "Well this is still all a lot."

Baron sat in thought for a moment. "If you don't mind, I could always visit you. Where's your kingdom?"

            "I don't have one."

"What? Were you attacked?" Baron inquired urgently.

"No. I uh...live in a cabin in the wooded area of Corvallis' far east. You're always welcome to visit of course." Claira told him cheerfully.

Baron shook his head. "You should move here and rule by my side. Or if you'd prefer your own kingdom, I'll give you your own. I have a small sector that's predominantly human, but if you don't mind ruling giants and other large subjects, then I can just cut my empire in half, and-"

"Baron, no. You've worked too hard for all of this. There's no chance I'm taking any of it." Claira huffed.

"I really don't mind. In fact, I'd especially love to rule by your side." Baron pushed.

Claira fixed him with a look.

"If it really bothers you, at least let me give you ownership of a town you can govern," Baron pushed.

"I'm happy, Baron. If I wanted to rule, I could've married and killed my husband by now." Claira jeered. "But I appreciate it."

Baron pouted. "You took such good care of me when we were growing up. I just want to take care of you."

Claira was about three years older.

"If I need anything, you'll be the first person I ask," Claira assured him.

          "Good." Baron grinned.

He had to shift her to his left hand temporarily, so he could wave away a guard trying to come in.

"Ya know it's funny how two kings raised a dictator and a homebody," Claira noted.

Baron scoffed. "I am not a dictator."

"Do you prefer the term war lord who hates the word democracy?" Claira teased.

"Yeah yeah yeah." Baron scrunched up his nose. "You're lucky I love you, or I'd seize Corvallis and your home."
