I awoke in a strange corridor. It was dimly lit by torches that illuminated the stone floors and cemented walls, giving the passage an eerie glow.
I felt goosebumps raise along my arms and the back of my neck prickled in warning. I could feel someone's unnerving gaze on me calculating every step I took. I looked around trying to figure out how the hell I ended up in this place.
I kept walking forward until I reached a door that was slightly ajar. The only door for what seemed like miles on end. I was about to open it when it slammed open out of its own volition leading into a pitch-black room. I didn't want to go in there but I felt something pulling me into the void against my will. My limbs went numb making me too weak to fight against the compulsion.
"What do we have here," a clear feminine voice rang out into the dark room, engulfing me in the sweet crystal-clear sound of her voice.
I couldn't help but want her to speak again so that I could hear the musical voice once again. I felt as if I was submerged under a waterfall and every whisper that I caught of her was a breath of fresh air caressing my lungs in a gentle embrace.
"Who are you," I questioned adoringly every fiber of my being wanting to get closer to the enticing creature.
"It is not of importance child. Why are you here?" The mystical woman questioned.
"Where is here," I whispered back as if I were a small child who happened to stumble upon an incomprehensible concept. There was a pregnant pause before the female spoke again.
"No where child, tell me your name."
"Solange," I told her proudly, excited that she cared enough to ask me my name and not knowing why I cared at all.
"Beautiful name," I felt a cold hand caress my cheek and froze at the soft iciness of it.
"Such a beautiful soul you have, so pure, innocent." The voice drawled on.
"Where am I?" I asked again.
"Who are you," I questioned like a child wanting to know anything and everything.
"You must awake now dear," I didn't want to wake up. I wanted to stay here forever and speak to the beautiful voice that managed to enchant me.
"But I don't want to," I pouted feeling drawn to the woman. I heard light laughter that sounded more like wind chimes coming from within her.
"Until we meet again Solange," suddenly the air around me vanished, leaving my burning lungs with every exhale that escaped me. There was a wildfire running rampant in the middle of my chest and my joints locked in place as I gripped my throat hoping to ease the pain.
I was choking on nothing as I tried to draw in lungfuls of oxygen, but it proved to be unsuccessful as I felt my life force slowly diminishing with each passing moment.
There was an ear-splitting cackle in the background that broke through the trance I was in, drenching me in bitter horror.
"Sorry Solange,"
I awoke with a gasp sitting straight up in bed while clutching my throat.
The darkness left me shaking in my own skin after that nightmare and I quickly turned on the light on my nightstand flooding the room in a soft yellow glow.
I rubbed my throat as I drew in deep breaths and realized that it was just all a very bad nightmare.
The digital clock on my desk read that it was a quarter past midnight and I fell back on my bed with a silent groan, vigorously rubbing my hands against my face trying to erase the cackling that I heard at the end of the nightmare.
