"You believe in me?"

"Of course"

"So then I was sitting there as she...Jon?"

"Hmm? What?"

"You weren't even listening!!"

"You were talking about your hair...go on..."

Lindsie Walsh...what a bore. It's my own fault. I invited her to the prom because she was a hot piece of ass and a cheerleader. Sure she was decent enough in bed and she let me do things that I hadn't done with other girls, but she was just so vapid and self absorbed. She wasn't even that pretty...I mean she wasn't Madison pretty...wait what was I just thinking?  I was so distracted since things went a little off course with Maddy. I didn't mean to take it that far and she's been avoiding me like crazy ever since. She even moved seats to the other side of the room in first period. She stopped having lunch with us and stopped answering calls and texts. She eats alone and quickly goes into the library for the remainder of lunch. I was really hoping I didn't hurt her or something.

A familiar giggle broke my thoughts and I turned in the direction of the sound. There was Jeff and Maddy having dinner before prom. I knew I recognized the laugh. I felt like such an idiot for not asking her first. I should've because she is my best friend and I know she wanted to go with me.

"Come on Jon. Lets go! I'm so excited!"

Lindsie tugged at my arm and I reluctantly got up and followed her out the door. I kind of didn't want to go to the prom anymore. I missed Madison like crazy and I hated all of the silence between us. We arrived at the prom and Lindsie immediately dragged me for pictures and then over to her group of vapid cheerleaders. This wasn't my crowd or my thing. I was used to hanging out with my small group and Maddy and I knew no matter what I wasn't going to be able to. I scanned the room and found Madison, Jeff and Daniel hanging out together. I wanted to be there having fun, but instead I was stuck here listening to 6 girls squeal with delight over the hip hop song Lindsie picked out for the basketball "half time" show. I couldn't even talk to the other girls' dates. They were all the jocks I always hated and they hated me right back. I seriously didn't belong over here and it showed.

"Lindsie, can we go hang out with my friends for a while?"

She looked over my shoulder and scoffed at me "What? NO!"

"Why not? I've had to stand here and listen to your friends and their dates go on and on about nothing. Can't you return the favor and come over and hang out with my friends for a little while?"

"NO. You go. But you BETTER come back"

I rolled my eyes as I turned away and walked towards the back corner where everyone was. My heart was pounding in my chest and it ached when I walked up just as Madison cuddled against Jeff with her head on his shoulder and laughed. It was kind of an uncomfortable silence once they finally realized I was standing there and Maddy shifted uncomfortably towards Jeff.

"Hey"

"What happened to the cheerleading squad?"

"I got bored. They were all talking about....I don't even know. Lindsie wouldn't come over with me, but whatever" I shrugged.

"GOOD"

Madison snidely remarked, grabbed Jeff's hand and pulled him to the dance floor. I closed my eyes and sighed. Daniel and I stood there watching them dance. She seemed so happy with him. I didn't understand where that came from. She'd always been so standoffish to him and always dismissed his advances towards her. They danced close and talked and every few comments from him would elicit a laugh or cause her to blush. I'd never seen her like this and it made me wish it was me
