I yawned and stretched and reached over to the other side of the bed....he was gone. I sat up and looked around not even sure if I had dreamed what happened. I was so drunk I barely remembered crawling into bed let alone having sex with someone. Slowly I crawled to the end of the bed and surveyed the room. It was a complete mess. Empty bottles from the mini bar everywhere, but a small wrapper on the floor caught my eye. I stood and picked it up and bit my lip

"Shit! It's unopened!"

In a panic I grabbed my phone and started to dial Jon, but stopped. There was no reason to call him. It was obvious he was staying with Julia and he was getting married in 3 hours. I put the phone down and quickly packed my bags. It was time to go back home

"Mommy?"

Her scared voice and shaking woke me with a start. I looked up to see Carly staring at me concerned. I sat up and smiled at her and hugged her as I closed my eyes hearing Rick stomp around getting ready for work. I was hoping he would just go to work and not come in here because the fight last night was enough. That's how I ended up in Carly's room on the floor...I snuck out of bed after I knew he was asleep. I closed my eyes and winced at my hip...this tattoo...I lifted the band of my shorts and sighed and let it go.  The door knob turned slowly and Carly took off to the other side of the room. What the hell am I doing to my kid?

"Hey...gone...I want that tattoo gone by the time I get back on Wednesday. You hear me?"

I bit my lip and nodded. Idiot! Tattoo shops won't work on me with it looking like this. I stared at the door waiting to hear him drive away and quickly got up and grabbed my phone and dialed

"Hey...it's me....want to have lunch?"

Jon's POV

I leaned on the railing, lit a cigarette and took a deep drag. I stared at my phone as the smoke slowly billowed out. I didn't have any reason to be staring at it. She wasn't going to be calling me any time soon and even if she did I wouldn't know the number if I saw it. I flicked ash over the side and scrolled through old pictures. I didn't have any saved with Julia...just with Maddy. I always kept the pictures with Maddy. Part of me just could never let her go and Julia knew...it's why she left. I tried to fix it with Julia, but she just stopped returning my calls. Stopped answering the door. I came home one Wednesday morning to my stuff in one of those rented storage containers on the driveway with a note attached:

Here's your stuff. Sign the papers.

I took another deep drag before crushing what was left against the railing and flicking it over the side. I shoved my phone in my pocket with a sigh, blew out the smoke and grabbed my keys. There wasn't anywhere in particular I was headed, but I was hungry so I stopped at a small restaurant downtown. I sat down at the bar and ordered a beer and something quick to eat. Sighing I surveyed the place and paused looking in a small booth.

Maddy's POV

Carly and I sat in the small booth waiting for Danny to have lunch. I was trying to keep her entertained when the waitress brought her crayons and a kid menu to color. My head was throbbing and I was exhausted. I put my head in my hands and closed my eyes sighing deeply. He was late and it was annoying. The sound of someone sitting across from me made me weakly smile and I lifted my head and paused

"Hey Maddy"

"You stalking me?"

"Huh? It's nice to see you too. I didn't know I couldn't have lunch at the same restaurant as you. How about next time you give me a call Madison and let me know where you're going to be so I won't show up there. Sound like a plan?"
