Interrogation

I sat at a small table in the interrogation room. They'd brought me a water and a bag of chips I'd asked for. No one was telling me what I'd been charged with. I hadn't been allowed to make any calls. More than anything I was worried about Madison and Carly.

The door slowly opened and closed. The man in the suit said nothing as he set his notebook down and got set up.

"Alright Mr. Good..."

"Call me Jon."

"Fine. Sorry for the delay."

"Was it entertaining watching me eat a bag of chips from the other side of that window?"

I motioned with my head towards the large double sided glass window. He made a face and opened his notebook.

"So let's talk about yesterday."

"I want to make a call."

"When we're done."

"Let me start over. I want to call my lawyer. I want my attorney. I'm not stupid. I know Rick's got his hands in everyone's pockets around here."

He closed his notebook and stared at me like I was going to change my mind about it. He finally got up and left the room.

MADDY'S POV:

Carly sat on my lap leaning against me and clutching onto the bear an officer gave her at the scene. We sat in an interrogation room. It was cold and scary, but I was trying to stay calm for Carly. I was scared they were going to take her away.

Rick was powerful and had all kinds of pull here. I knew he'd come after Jon and I knew this was going to be bad. The door slowly opened and I looked up hoping it was Jon. Hoping this was all a big misunderstanding and we could all leave like we planned.

Danny walked in. I was so relieved in a way but I knew why he was here. I held Carly tight and close against me as tears streamed down my cheeks

"Maddy, are you OK?"

I shook my head holding onto her tighter.

"I promise Carly will be safe."

"No."

"Maddy..." he sighed, "I know you know why I'm here. I promise this is only temporary. Your mom is waiting outside. You know the kids go to family first. I wouldn't just give her off to some stranger."

"We didn't do anything wrong. Please."

"I know you didn't. Believe me, I know what went on in that house. But until it's resolved it is in the best interest of Carly to be placed elsewhere."

He reached for her and I pulled her closer against me. I wasn't stupid. I knew what all of this meant, but we'd done nothing wrong. Even Jon had technically not done anything wrong. Danny sighed and sat in the chair across from me

"Madison, please don't make this get ugly. I don't want to have to forcefully take her and make all of this worse."

"You don't understand."

"No, I do understand. I promise you that she is going to your mom's. Your mom is right out front waiting. This isn't permanent. It's going to be OK."

He reached for her again and I held on refusing to let him take her. He made a face and motioned for the uniformed officer by the door to help. I held on tight refusing to let go. The officer started to pry my arms apart forcefully as Danny reached and took Carly. She screamed reaching for me as he started heading towards the door with her

"WE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG!! I HATE YOU!!"

I screamed and sobbed as he walked out of the door. The officer let go and I put my face in my hands and leaned forward sobbing against my knees.
