Green With Jealousy

I took a deep drag off of my cigarette as I nervously packed my bag. Danny was sitting in the middle of my bed laughing at me.

"What the fuck is so funny?" As I puffed

"You're so nervous. It's not like you haven't met him before."

"I'm not nervous! I'm plotting"

I threw some close into the bag and went into the bathroom. I looked like shit. I had dark circles under my eyes and my hair was loosely piled on top of my head. The cigarette dangled out of my mouth as I shoved my toiletries into a small bag. I hadn't actually smoked in years. I normally had only done it with Jon and that was just stealing his for a quick puff. I kept a pack in my nightstand for emergencies. Now was an emergency. I threw my toiletries bag into the bigger bag on my bed

"You know...he worshipped me for 5 god damned years. What could she possibly know about him?"

"Maddy you haven't even met her"

"I bet you she's perky and young and fucking blonde with blue eyes. I bet she giggles and skips and has flowers in her hair with perfectly manicured fingernails."

Danny was hysterically laughing at me. I guess maybe I was being a tad irrational and judgemental. I zipped up my bag and finished off my cigarette on the balcony. I ran my hands over my face and sighed. I was so nervous and stressed out. I didn't want to have to see him again after all of these years...at least not for this reason.

"Maddy?"

I turned around and sighed "Yeah"

"You know. If I were you and I was seeing my ex after all of these years I definitely wouldn't be looking like a hot mess like you do right now. Make him see what he's missing out on. Show him marrying this new girl is a mistake...without actually sabotaging their relationship.  You don't plan on doing that do you?"

I shrugged my shoulders and half smiled. I didn't want him to know I was actually thinking about that very topic. I knew deep down I didn't really have the guts to do that. Or maybe I did, but I was trying to convince myself I didn't. I went into the bathroom and curled my hair a little and put on some make up. I decided I wasn't going to put on anything over the top so a modest green dress and white shoes. Just a little something to bring out my eyes. We piled into my car. I puffed on another cigarette as Danny drove to the airport. I was freaking out inside. I got out and checked my bag and headed for the gate. I watched several planes take off as I felt my phone buzz in my pocket.

Can't wait to see you!!

I rolled my eyes, smiled and shook my head. I couldn't wait either. The call to board came over the PA system. I boarded and found my seat near the window. I watched as everything became smaller and smaller until we were floating in the clouds. I leaned back and closed my eyes bracing myself for the 4 hour flight. 4 hours to sit and think about all of the ways I was going to win him back.
