This one's really short. If you wanna know why I haven't been updating, look at my personal update.
"Sister Y/n. Wake up. We have to go feed the newsies," I hear Sister Patricia call to me. I begin to stir in bed before finally sitting up. I quickly rush to go get my clothing on, which I do just in time to leave. I enjoy providing food and drinks for the newsies, not just because it makes me feel happy, but because there's a really cute newsie who I've got my eye on.
But alas, my father would never let me be with a newsie. I'm expected to marry a rich man, who will take me away and I'll become the maid of the house. But that's not what I want at all. I want to just be able to live my life.
Anyways, I walk out with a tray of food and coffee, handing a cup and small tear of bread to each boy I can. The last boy who comes up is the really cute newsie, with hair as black as night and a few stray freckles dotted across his face.
"May the lord grant you a blessed day," I say as I hand him the cup of coffee and bread. When he reaches out to grab the coffee, his hands touch mine for a moment, creating an unintentional spark.
"You too, sista," The boy says. That's the most interaction we've ever had. I know it's a lot to say that I like him when we only exchange about 10 words with eachother, but it's just a crush. The nuns all turn around and walk back into the church. I skip into the alley, which gives me darkness to pull out a cigar, which I quickly light.
I bring the cigar to my lips and take a breath in, releasing my anxiety with just one breath.
"Aren't nuns not supposed tah smoke?" I hear a voice ask. I turn around and see the cute boy and fell my heart begin to race.
"Maybe, why? You gonna snitch?" I ask, sounding unintentionally mean. I hear him chuckle and walk up to me, looking me up an down, but not in a creepy way.
"Nah, you'se real cute," the boy says, making me smile to myself. He then holds out his hand, not spitting in it. "I'se Elmer."
"Nice to meet'cha, Elmer. I'm Y/n," I say, shaking his hand.
"But really, why are you smoking in the alley?" He asks. I roll my eyes and take a breath of smoke.
"That's nun of your business," I say, emphasizing the word 'None'.
"Did you just make a pun?" He asks. I can hear him slightly laughing, which makes my heart beat faster.
"Maybe," I mumble, slightly proud of myself. He chuckles and wraps an arm around my shoulders.
"Well, then, would ya maybe like tah go on a date wit' me?" He asks. I freeze up for a moment. "It's fine if ya don't wanna. I mean, I'd get it," he says, dropping his facade of confidence.
"Maybe I would like to go on a date with you," I say with a chuckle, putting out my cigar. He jumps back and smiles.
"Awesome! Just scored a date wit' da most beautiful goil in New York! And a nun!"
