This takes place in the nearish future. Also there's just a tad bit of violence (sarcasm) and no real love interest, just a oneshot with a bit of flirting from everyone. If you want more oneshots with this situation, please do request it.

Your POV

I quickly rush to lock the door to our base, the sound of the brain craving, flesh eating monsters on the other side of it fighting back with all of their might.

"Y/N!! Watch out!!!" I hear Tommy Boy yell from behind me, I look to see a zombie about to bite me, but he takes his machete and cuts the zombie's head off. As soon as he cuts the head off, the door finally shuts, and I fall back, sighing in relief as the sound of the zombies is muffled by the door. "Ya nearly lost ya damn life! What was ya thinkin' tryin' tah close the damn door on ya own?!"

I look up at the angry boy. I know he's not actually mad at me, he's just worried for my health.

"There... There was no time, I had to take a chance or have a possibility of everyone in here dying," I explain through shallow breaths. He sighs and pulls me into a bear hug that lifts me off the ground, where my shaking body is pressed against his. I can hear his quietly cry into my shoulder.

"Don't- don't do dat kinda stuff again. You nearly got bit and I don't know what I- we'd do witout ya," he says. I pat his back to try and calm him down. He's the newest in our group that we call 'NEWSIES', named after the Newsboys of 1899, who all worked together to archive what was needed to help people, which is what we do.

"I won't, okay?" I say, trying to calm him down. He nods and pulls away.

"Sorry 'bout dat, I just had a tiny panic attack, don't tell no one 'bout it. Anyways, Jack needs tah see ya," he says, I nod and give him a small hug before quietly walking off to Jack's room.

We've been hiding out in an old library for about three months, but it's become our base of operations. I've been around since the group started, which was only about a day after the zombie outbreak became a pandemic, or what we call the 'Bomb Bite' because that's when the most people got bit.

The closest of us went to school together, as most, if not all of us, were still in highschool when the ourbreak came. The groups include Jack, me, Kathrine, Specs, and Mush from one school, Race, Albert, and Jojo joined later from another school, the rest joined mostly separately, other than Davey and his little brother Les.

I walk up to one of the doors in the basement, which is the meeting room, which mainly belongs to Jack. I knock on the door, I hear the voice of Jack telling me to come in, which I do. As I walk inside, I see him and Specs waiting for me.

"Good, ya made it. Specs has some real important infamation dat only few people shoulds know, just in case we'se wrong," Jack says and gestures to Specs, who looks nervous.

"Okay, I'se been looking in the anatomy books 'round here, and somethin' hit me while readin', bodies need tah decompose. Sos I looked around, comparing the stages of decomposition to the zombies, and I'se got good news. Most of the zombies out dere dat were bitten during the bomb bite should be skeletons within a month. But that's not countin' the people bitten afta about half of the woild was infected, so that leaves maybe anudda couple months for us to be mostly safe. So I'd venture to guess that we can freely walk 'round, with protection of course, in only about six or more months," Specs says. I can feel my heart jump from excitement.

"Wait, are you serious? We can finally come out of lockdown in only a few months?" I ask, tears threatening to come a knocking.

"It's only a theory, but hopefully," Specs says. I have to take a seat at the desk before I pass out, Jack reaches over and holds my hand.
