Winter Break

Chapter 1

Kate's P.O.V

That was a really weird dream. How on earth- wait. It's Christmas! I jump out of bed and run downstairs almost tripping over Pablo. He wags his tail and starts licking my pajama pants.

"Hey boy," I say kneeling down to scratch between my dogs ears.

"Merry Christmas honey," my mom says giving me a hug.

"Merry Christmas mama."

"Princess! Merry Christmas!"

"Merry Christmas dad," I say giving him a hug.

"Presents?"

"By the tree," my dad points.

I rush to the tree Pablo at my feet then rushing over sniffing the tall boxes and wagging his tail.

I make my way toward the tree. "What in the world-"

"Surprise!!" My best friend Lucy jumps from the box.

I scream stumbling back. "Lucy! You scared the frik out of me!"

She giggles. "Sorry, but I'm not alone," she motions her hands toward the second big box.

I raise my eyebrow.

Lucy clears her throat and says more loudly and firmly. " I said, I'm not alone!"

Nothing.

"Lucy-"

"Hang on."

She steps out of the box and opens the other one peering in. I do the same.

There sleeping inside the box, was my other best friend Ryan. Lucy and i exchanged looks.

"1..." I whisper.

"2..." Lucy whispers.

"3! Ryan wake up!" We shout.

He's eyes shot open and springs from the box. "I'm up! I'm up! What did I miss?"

"Merry Christmas idiot," I laugh.

He smiles showing jazz hands. "Surprise."

I laugh. "To late for that."

He steps out of the box. "Now let's open the other presents," he rubs his hands together.

"We will go first," My mom smiles holding a bag out to me.

I smile as I look inside. I pull out black, silver, and white nail polish, black beanie, and a Starbucks gift card. "I love it! Thank you," I hug them both.

"Your welcome pumpkin," my dad pats my back and kisses my hair.

I hand then their presents.

"Oh thank you honey! We love it!" My mom smiles pulling out her new boots and scarf and my dad pulls out cologne and a hat.

"Our turn now!" Lucy cheers. "I'll go first." She gets a bag from under the tree and hands it to me.

I pull out a penguin sweater and a penguin snow globe. "Thanks! I love it!"

Lucy smiles. "You can add it to your collection."

"You mean obsession," Ryan corrects and I glare at him.

I get my present to Lucy and she opens it up and beams. "A wolf hat and-" she pulls out a rectangular box. "Candy! Thank you!" She hugs me.

"It's not just any candy, it's Russian candy. Super good," I smile.

She beams and I could see it in her eyes that it's taking so much will power not to eat all that candy now.

"Save the best for last," Ryan winks handing me his gift.

I roll my eyes but open the present. "Black beats and my favorite lotion for bath and body works!" I quickly open the bottle and take a sniff of the amazing coconut lotion.

I hand him his present.

He beams taking out a doctor who robe and a walking dead t-shirt. "I. Love. It!" He hugs me and I hug back.

"Kate, when are you gonna tell them?"

"Tell us what?" Lucy asks.

I smile and my friends exchange glances knowing well what this smile means.

"Guess where we're going for winter break?" I ask.

"Where?" Ryan looks at me trying to figure out what I'm hiding.

I pull 3 brochures and tickets and stick it in front of them. "We're going to Snowflake Mountain Resort and Spa in Vermont!!" I say happily.
