Chapter 12

Kate's P.O.V

"What are you three doing?" I hear someone shout behind me.

I let go of the knob and turn around to see a man, maybe in his early 20's, with a flashlight shining in our eyes.

"What are you guys doing?" He asks again coming closer.

"Oh um-" I turn around and see that the door is gone.

I look at Lucy and Ryan and they looked as stunned as me.

I turn back to the man to now see he is cop and his name is Chad.

"Nothing officer," I clear my throat.

He stares at us, trying to see what where hiding.

"It's almost 1 am, can you tell me what your doing out here?"

"We just went for a walk," Ryan says.

"Where are you staying?" The officer asks.

"That hotel," Ryan points.

Chad stares more intensely. "Where are your parents?"

"We came here alone officer," I say.

"How old are you three?"

"17 officer," Ryan says.

He nods. "Alright. Well head on back to your hotel. Don't come back out here again."

With that he walks away.

We all do as were told but I can't help to feel something fishy about Chad.

"Let's not do that again," Lucy says wide eyed.

"Don't you think there was something off about Chad?" I ask.

"What do you mean off?" Ryan asks sitting down on my bed.

"I mean he seemed really young to be an officer, don't you think? He looks young."

"Yeah I thought so too."

"Oh thank god I wasn't the only one who thought that! He was freaking me out. The whole thing, I thought we were gonna get in trouble!" Lucy says plopping down next to Ryan.

What is wrong with Chad? I can't put my finger on it but it's just something about him. Something off, something that's I don't know- what can it be? Was it how he was acting? How he was worried about not us coming to that spot. Then the door wasn't there. It has disappeared before, but-

"Kate!" I feel Lucy shake me. "Kate!"

"What?" I say shaking her off me.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing why?"

"We've been trying to get your attention for the past 20 minutes," Ryan says. "What are you thinking about?"

"I'm thinking about Chad."

"Oo Chad," Ryan winks.

I smack his arm. "Not like that idiot! I'm trying to figure out what is up with him. He really didn't want us to be there."

"Yeah, like it was his property," Lucy agrees.

"So were going again tomorrow," I state.

"What if Chad's out there again?" Lucy asks.

"Then we're gonna have to sneak out," Ryan says looking at me.

I look back at him and nod. Lucy looks at both of us and sighs.

"I want to know why he doesn't want us to be there, I mean it's a snowboarding area, a lot of people go there."

"Maybe it was just because it's 1 am," Lucy informs.

I shake my head. "I think it's something more. I want to find out, if it's what you said Lucy, I'll let it go and we will go back."

"Okay well we will do all that tomorrow," Lucy yawns.

"It is tomorrow," Ryan says.

"Shut up," Lucy glares.

He laughs.

"Let's just go to bed."

"Good idea. We have a full day ahead of us," I smile.
