Lucy's P.O.V

I squeal grabbing the brochure and jumping up and down making Pablo wag his tail and jump around in excitement too.

"Are you serious? Are we really going to a resort and spa?"

"Yeah I'm serious!" Kate beams.

"When are we leaving?" Ryan asks looking calm.

Not like Ryan. Was he not excited about going?

"Today! My parents already talked to your parents."

"Awesome!" I say.

"Come on!" Kate runs up stairs followed by Ryan and I.

Once we get inside and I shut the door, Ryan is dancing around doing the moon walk and who knows what else.

That's Ryan.

Kate and I join in doing weird dance moves. Excluding the wave, wobble and sprinkler. I plop down on Kate's bed and clap my hands squealing. I'm so excited!

"Why were you acting so calm down stairs?" Kate asks.

I sit up to see what Ryan has to say.

"Unlike you too, I can control myself."

"We can control ourselves!" Kate defends.

"Sure," he rolls his eyes and we both glare.

I jump off the bed. "I need to go home and pack."

"Same," Ryan gets up too.

"We all need to pack, but before you go, whose car are we gonna take?"

At the same time Kate and I both say; "Ryan!"

"Ugh, why does it have to be my car?" He groans.

"Because we said so," I place my hands on my hips.

"But I'm to lazy to drive," he drags his body like a zombie toward the door.

"We'll take turns driving," Kate suggests.

I nod.

"Finnee," Ryan gives in and walks out the door.

Kate looks back at me and mouths; "No we won't."

I laugh.

Kate walks us out and then Ryan drops me off. I walk up the stairs still super pumped. I can't believe we're going to Vermont! That ends when I walk in and get shot at with a nerf gun. I scream and then I hear laughter.

My 11 year old brother's laughter.

"Gotcha!"

"Sam!" I huff.

He begins to run away and I as I stomp after him I run into my mom.

"Hey Lucy," she smiles.

"Hey mom."

"Came home to pack?"

I nod my smile growing back.

"Where yeah going?" Sam asks as I open the door to go up to my room.

"Vermont."

"Why?"

"Resort and Spa."

"Who yeah going with," he presses on.

"My friends. Now leave me alone," I stare at him hoping he takes the hint.

The easy part was putting my duffle bag on my bed, now for the hard part.

What clothes and things will I pack?

My room looks like a tornado hit but everything is finally pack. As I look around I feel like I'm missing something. Right then my eyes spot my pink hairbrush.

I grab it. "Can't forget you."

I zip up my bag and fling it over my shoulder, leaving the mess to clean up later. As I open the door I almost run into my dad starting me.

Everyone in this house just loves to startle me. It's just that I'm so jumpy.

"Oh hey Lucy," he smiles then looks at my pink peace sign duffle bag. "Going somewhere?"

"Yeah. The place where I'm going with Kate and Ryan," I motion with my hands for him to remember saying the words slowly.

"Oh yeah! Sorry I almost forgot," he shakes his head.

"It's okay."

"Need a ride?"

"Sure."

I kiss my mom goodbye and make my way to the door when I'm interrupted again.

Sam crosses his arms over his chest. "I wanna go with you."

I kneel down to my little brother. "You can't go with me Sam."

"Why not?" He pouts.

"It's just a trip for my friends and I," I look him in the eyes so he understands.

"Sam come here, let's watch a movie," my mom calls for him.

He stands in front of the door way not letting me pass.

"Sam stop it."

"No," he stomps his foot.

"Your 11 years old, stop acting like your 5," I say.

"Your only 17! You shouldn't be going anywhere anyway," he stomps his foot again.

"Sam!" I snap.

"Lucy!"

"Mom!" I shout behind me.

"Sam! Come here sweetie," she calls.

We have a stare off but he finally gives in running to our mom.

I take a deep breath then let it out calming myself. "Okay now I'm ready."

I walk outside feeling the coldness and shiver a little as I walk towards the car.

My dad unlocks it and when he turns on the heat I relax.

We drive in silence until we pull up at Kate's. Then he turns to me.

"Be safe I love you," my dad kisses my forehead.

"Love you too dad," I kiss his cheek and make my way up the drive.

I see Kate open the door waiting for me, her leg presses against the side of the door frame. I know why. I see Pablo's little white head poke through and laugh.
