Vikki's POV

Cookie left with Two-Bit for their first date around four, leaving me to babysit Gracie until Karen came home from grocery shopping.

"Aunt Vikki?" Gracie asked as we sat next to each other on the couch and I was trying to teach her how to play Go-Fish.

"Aye?" I asked, telling her to Go-Fish.

"Is Two gonna be my new Da?" she asked looking up at me innocently.

"No." I said quickly, fast enough to stop her train of thought early before it derailed. "He's just... he's gonna be a really good friend to yer ma."

"Why?"

"Because they like each other very much."

"Are they gonna git married?"

"Ah dinnae ken." I said honestly, "it's early, so not soon."

"What about ye?"

"What now?" I froze

"When can Ah git an uncle?"

I had to keep myself from laughing, "what makes ye so interested in our love lives, eh?"

"'Cause Ah ain't allowed to have one."

"And it's gonna stay that way. Until Ah'm underground." I joked.

"Then Ah dinnae have tae wait that long." She said, followed by a nonchalant "go-fish".

"What?" I asked, severely concerned.

I didn't get her response, because Karen came waltzing through the door carrying large brown paper grocery bags in her arms. I told Gracie to help out by putting the groceries away, and tapped her bum as she ran off in a giggle mess. I cleaned up the cards and placed them in a stack at the coffee table. I was trying to keep my mind occupied from the confrontation I was about to endure.

I went up to my room and slipped on a white knit sweater that somehow made my pale skin look tan. Maybe I am getting tan from the Oklahoma sun. I tan much easier than Cookie. Her red hair keeps her complexion white as snow.

I couldn't even look at myself in the mirror, I only hoped I looked presentable. I was so nervous about talking to Soda, and he didn't even know I was coming. I just hoped that I could get him alone. I don't need my personal life broadcasted to the boys.

I ran down the stairs and was stopped by Karen as I was putting on my shoes.

"Where ya going?" She asked, tieing her patterned apron behind her back.

"Out." I said, trying to be as nonchalant as possible.

"Oh." She said, "with who?"

She didn't seem to be like she was trying to target me, but her questions made me nervous.

"A mate."

"Have I met him?"

"How did ye know it was a him?" I asked.

"It's Saturday night." She said, "I used to be a girl too, ya know."

"Aye, it's Soda."

Her face brightened, proving to me that he makes women of all ages blush. "Soda Curtis? I like that boy. Does he live close? I can drive you."

"Nah," I shook my head and prepared a lie, "Ah'm fine. It's pure close, Ah can walk."

"All right," she sounded slightly disappointed, "call if ya need to be picked up, okay?"
