Cookie's POV

A couple of weeks had passed by after prom and Vikki and I had only seen the boys at school due to Karen's insistence that we start going to tea and debutant events with her. I knew Vikki missed Soda tons, and Karen even insisted that he come along, but she never invited Two-Bit so Vikki did not feel it was fair to bring Soda along to the dull events. Eventually, Two-Bit had called asking if he could take Gracie and I out for an afternoon, I was confused at first as to why he wanted to take Gracie too, but he quickly explained.

"I know I ain't her Dad or nothing, but her Mama means an awful lot to me, so I want her to know I'll be here for her. And we ain't been together in God knows how long, it is high time we had another date." He had said and I wanted to cry into the receiver. He is so sweet. I felt my lip quivering, and I wanted to punch myself as to why I have been so emotional lately. These soft boys are rubbing off on me. I cleared my throat before putting my mouth back toward the receiver and asked, "may Ah ask where we are going?"

"It's a surprise." He said.

"How am Ah supposed tae ken how tae dress Gracie?" I asked, trying to get him to crack.

"Hmm.." he hummed, "something nice, but something ya don't mind getting a little dirty."

I knitted my eyebrows, trying to think of any place he could take us that involved decent clothes, and what is fine to get a little dirty. What was that supposed to mean?

"I got to go, babe, but I'll be there in an hour. I love you." He said before hanging up.

"Love ye tae." I said to the empty line and hung up. I went to the kitchen to rummage for a glass of water and some aspirin to take care of my headache. No one else was awake yet, but I knew I had to get Gracie up soon for our afternoon with Two-Bit.

I went to my room and found my cleanest pair of jeans, and a navy blue shirt I tucked into my pants, cinching with a thick black belt. I put on Two's jacket, and grabbed a banana to munch on before waking up Gracie.

I snuck into Gracie's room, careful not to wake Clint or Karen or Vikki. Clint and Karen are usually early risers, except on the weekends. On weekends, they seem to catch up on any sleep they missed out on during the weekdays. I think the latest they have slept in was until half past noon, and Karen was livid that she missed most of the day.

"Gracie," I hummed in her ear, rubbing her back gently as she stirred awake. "Gracie."

"Eh?" She grumbled in her tired, grumpy voice.

"Git up and git crackin'," I said a little louder, "Two-Bit is gonna come pick us up soon and take us on a date."

"Us?" She asked excitedly. That seemed to wake her up.

"Mhm." I asked, getting on my feet and listening to my knees crack. I headed to the window and pulled the curtains up, just as I do for Vikki when she is sleeping in. "Hurry up, lass, git dressed."

I headed to the door and I heard her jump out of bed and throw her closet door open. She was always so excited to spend time with Two. She may not have hung out with the gang much, but she definitely liked Two-Bit the most, it probably had to do with him buying her popcorn when we met. I love my daughter, but buy her food and she will love you forever.

"Make sure ye wear something ye can get dirty."

"Aye, mama!"

I walked back into my room. I sighed, rummaging through my bedside table for an elastic to tie up my unruly curls. I figured the jeans and t-shirt that I was wearing was going to be good enough for this date. When I finally found the little box that held all my elastics, I was sad to see only one left. I might have to resort to dental floss if I break this one.
