Hello Sparkle Ghosts!
(The comments of Chapter 13 came up with that name for my readers)

It's currently a bit past 12AM, so it's legally my birthday :D

Which means, as promised, I bring you my gift for 1k reads! Of course, it's a Sokeefe moment, taking place just before Glimmer got the call of Keefe's awakening in Chapter 1.

Enjoy, and thank you all so much!!

KEEFE

Something stirred inside of him.

Awakening.

Was it a monster?

No.
A breathe of fresh air.

A new conscious.

Power that bubbled underneath.

Waiting, watching...

Ready to burst free.

Ready to-

Keefe gasped.
He was alive.
Awake.
Sophie.
Where was she?
Where was he?
Was she okay?

His fear stabbed him at every angle, piercing every breath.

"Sophie?" He rasped.
Something on the other side of the room fell.
It was dark.
Keefe was struggling to make out the blur of colors approaching him when a voice asked, "Keefe?"

The sound of the voice was the most amazing thing Keefe thought he could ever hear.
Her voice.

A gasp slipped from her mouth as two hands wrapped around him.

"Oh- Keefe! You're- you're awake! When your consciousness slipped away- I thought- I thought-,"

"Easy there, Foster." He eased.
"I'm okay now. Now that you're here."

He felt her tears sink into his sleeve.
"Sorry," she mumbled.
Keefe couldn't help but laugh.
"You don't gotta be sorry, Foster. This is all I could ever hope for."

She pulled away then, studying him.
"How are you feeling?" She asked, now standing up.
"Oh- you know.. pretty good for being turned into a black-goo-monster by Mommy Dearest and the Tamster. Not to mention the Lights Show girl,"
Her expression hardened at the mention of his mother.

"I won't let her hurt you again," she whispered.
"I know," he whispered back.

It was then Keefe got the glory of experiencing Foster in a sparkly night gown.

"Woah- Foster.. we had a slumber party that I didn't even know about?" He gasped, putting a hand up to his heart like he was wounded.
The motion took more effort than it should've.

The pretty blonde turned a lovely shade of crimson then, wrapping her arms around herself.
"More like a month-long one, but yeah,"
Wow.
A month.

Keefe tried to hide his shock as he flashed her a grin.

"Aww, Foster stayed by me while I took a good-long nap."

"I had to."

"Nah, I bet there was a little bit of excitement in there too."

She shook her head, and a wave of sad nostalgia hit him.
"There was nothing exiting about watching you be like that," she whispered.

Keefe cut the jokes then.

He reached up, carefully taking her hand.
She sat back down on his cot.
He wrapped his arms around her, hugging her tight.
Not wanting to let go.
Hanging on to her like a life float in a deadly sea.
Assuring both her and himself.

He felt her emotions shift then, from sad to..
Content.
Happy.
It was all he could give her.
Comfort.
And her merely existing was his comfort in exchange.

"I'm glad you're okay," she said quietly.

"Me too, Foster, me too,"

And he really was.

"Should I tell Elwin you're up?"
She yawned then, leaning against him more.

"I don't think quite yet," he whispered.
"Can we stay like this- just a while longer?"

Keefe was surprised that his voice broke then.
She nodded against his shoulder.
Keefe leaned back against the cot frame, feeling more alive than he ever had before.
Somehow happy when his world was falling apart.
She kept him together.
At some point, Sophie had connected a channel between their and Silveny's minds, filling his mind with images of colorful sunsets in sandy deserts and long nights spent under skies of stars.

But right as sleep took over, one last image from Silveny pricked Keefe's consciousness.
It was of Sophie and Keefe, riding Silveny through a sky of orange and pink.

It was clear to him then that Sophie's obliviousness did not come from her alicorn-inspired DNA.

And at the thought he sailed into the sweet oblivion of unconsciousness, feeling the warmth of Sophie in his arms.

Out of all the nights he spent dreaming, this one was by far the best.
