Chapter 7

Garou's POV

"Where the hell am I?" I looked around to see red rock formations and magma. It's pretty hot in here. Is this hell? I looked down to see that my clothes were torn to shreds but still intact.

"Ah, you're finally awake. Hello Garou. We have a little surprise for you."

"What the hell is this pl-" A random light turned on and highlighted a small area. My eyes followed the origin of the light to the small area it was highlighting. There was a girl tied up by chains in a metal chair. She looked like she had been beaten or tortured for a while. There was dried and new blood and dirt everywhere on her. She was unconscious until a shock woke her up. She looked familiar. It didn't take long to realize who it was. I was going to go unchain her until I realized that there were chains on my ankles that held me back.

"This is for you to get stronger Garou. When you can break those chains and save your little friend, you'll finally be the strongest monster," A strange voice rang out, "Although, what monster holds onto their humanity?" The voice began laughing maniacally. Then a demon creature came out and caressed Y/n's face. She shook and tears fell down her cheeks as she tried to move away. Seeing the fear in her eyes and knowing I couldn't help her hurt me. Then the creature started laughing and tortured her and although her screams were muffled by a cloth that was stuck in her mouth, they were loud. She spit the cloth out and called out to me.

"GAROU PLEASE!" Her voice was hoarse and broken.

"What did we tell you about doing that?" The voice questioned as she got shocked. Her screams of pain made my heart shatter.

"I- I'M GOING TO GET US OUT OF HERE OKAY?! JUST... STAY AWAKE!" I yelled. I was trying my best to get to her. But there was no progress. Then, she was shocked one last time and she didn't wake up no matter how many times I called her name. Everything stopped and I felt myself crying.

*that was a nightmare. He just woke up. Was it cringy-?*

I jolted awake and immediately got out the bed. I was sweating and it felt like I had just finished a workout despite being asleep. The apartment is usually cold so that wasn't normal. I staggered to the restroom and splashed cold water on my face. A tear fell down my cheek as I remembered my nightmare. It was at least 2 PM and I was alone. Maybe that wasn't a nightmare. Please let that be no more than a dream. Where's Y/n?
I ran around the apartment and searched every inch of it. She was nowhere in the apartment so my next few searches were going to be at the places she's usually at. I ran as fast as I could to the restaurant she worked at.

"Is Y/n here?!" I quickly asked one of the workers

"Uhhh..." everyone stared at me

"Garou?" An all too familiar voice called out to me. I whipped my head around to see Y/n in her uniform with a confused look on her face. I ran to where she was standing and inspected her just to make sure she was real and not hurt.

"Umm... you good?"

"Yeah. I just... don't worry about it." I said and relaxed, she hugged me out of the blue and I rested my head on her shoulder. I inhaled deeply, the scent of her lavender body spray calmed me down. I wanted to stay like this forever. I felt safe and reassured when I hugged her, just like a scared kid would when they hug their mom. I let out a sigh of relief. She cupped my cheeks and turned my face to look at her.

"You look tired. Are you hungry?" I nodded, she still held my face, "Go sit in that booth. I just cleaned it so don't worry. You want a steak?" I nodded again, "Okay. I'll be right back." She said in a nurturing tone as she flashed a smile at me. I let her go and sat down in the clean booth.

Y/n's POV

I have no idea about what that was all about. I could see hints of fear and relief in his eyes. He was kinda adorable like this. Seeing him so vulnerable was strange, whatever happened must've really scared him. That brought me back to my childhood with Garou. The last time he had a nightmare, that I knew of, he was spending a night at my house. He was mumbling something in his sleep and crawled into my bed with tears in his eyes. Half asleep and confused, I handed him my teddy bear so he could hug it. I gave him a hug and we went to sleep.

My lips curved into a small smile as I prepared Garou's steak. Once I was done, I brought his steak out and put it on his table and put my salad on the opposite side. His head was in his arms as he napped on the table. I poked his head a few times until he woke up.

"Here's your steak, drama queen."

"Whatever." He smirked

Garou's POV

"So... You wanna tell me what that nightmare was all about?"

"No." I don't wanna relive it.

"Okay big guy. I'm not even supposed to be working today but I came in to get a bit of extra money. We can hang out for the rest of the day if you want." She offered and took a bite of her salad.

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah. If you don't want to it's fine." I wanted to be with her but I probably shouldn't take her off the job.

"I don't want to take you away from the job. I'll be fine on my own for today."

"Okay. You can come back and visit whenever you want today. I'll probably be here all day." She said and shrugged. She tried to calm me down as we ate. After we finished, we said our goodbyes, she told me some stuff but I wasn't really listening. After I left the restaurant, I walked around for a while. A kid with a hero guide sitting on a bench caught my attention. We talked for a bit and he wouldn't let me read it for myself so he just told me about the heroes I pointed out. I got some pretty useful information and went off on a hunt. He kept calling me mister even though I'm only 18 and I told him to stop but he didn't hear, I left it alone and walked away.

*timeskip*

I walked back to our apartment with a hole in my hand from my fight. She's gonna be pissed when she sees this. Maybe I can hide it. There's no way she'd know, right? It really hurts though, maybe I'm gonna have to tell her. She said she was fine with my hero hunting. Fuck it, I'm just gonna tell her. What's the worst that can happen?

I got distracted by something glowing in the ground and it intrigued me. I went to go see what it was but then it exploded, sending me through a wall. I was unconscious for a while. When I woke up, I decided to go to my closest safe spot, which is the hero book kid's hideout.
