Chapter 9

Garou's POV

Me and Y/n cuddled while watching Ghostbusters. I'm not even sure how we got like this, but I didn't mind at all. Especially after that nightmare from a few nights before. She still had her bear in her arms which was no problem to me. I tease her about it, but in all honesty its actually adorable. When we were kids, we used to have sleepovers all the time. She would always sleep with a teddy bear. It's nice to know that she didn't grow out of it.

I looked down at her to see if she was still awake. She was curled into a ball with one of her hands on my chest. It didn't take me long to realize she had fallen asleep. I couldn't take my eyes off her sleeping face. Who would've thought she'd grow up to be so... beautiful?

'Our kids are gonna be so damn cute...' With a small smile, I leaned down and kissed her forehead and pulled her closer. My eyelids started getting heavy and I gave in and went to sleep.

*Garou's nightmare (yes again)*

My eyes fluttered opened to see an endless field and two other people who sat under a tree with me. It was a young woman and a child sitting on a picnic blanket. They were laughing and enjoying themselves. Suddenly, the child runs up to me and hugs my legs.

"Aren't you gonna eat with us, mister? We've been waiting on you." When I looked down at the kid, I realized it was the brat with the hero book. I guess I do care about him. Ah what the hell, A huge dorky smile spread and I picked him up and let him get on my back.

"Let's go, we don't wanna make her wait all day." I smiled even more as we approached Y/n.

"Look who finally made it. What took so long?" She questioned as she stood on her toes to kiss my cheek while hugging us, the kid groaned in disgust.

"It's just so peaceful it is here. Anyway, let's start eating!" We sat down and ate the huge picnic that was prepared for us. Our conversations were all funny and pleasant. After eating so much, I got full and leaned on the tree behind me.

My eyes were closed for a second. When they opened, the field was destroyed and scorched and the tree behind me had fallen. My first instinct was to look for Y/n and the boy. I yelled out but got no response. My heart raced as I searched the area for them. After what seemed like forever, I finally found them. Y/n was protecting the boy with her body while he cried out for me.

"Hey hey, I'm here. Are you guys okay?"

"N-no. She g-got really hurt and she won't move. She w-won't say anything to me."

"Shit... what happened?"

"A b-big monster."

"Let me see her. Come here." I pulled the kid into my arms and saw a deep wound on his hip. I winced and prepared myself for her injuries. Then positioned her comfortably on the ground with one arm under her neck so she could look at me. My heart broke when she looked at me with full eyes.

"I'm here, okay? I'm sorry I couldn't protect you both. I'm so so so sorry. Talk to me please. What happened?"

"A... monster... red... big... horns and... claws... cut me..." she strained and showed her wounds. It was so much worse than I thought. 3 huge claw marks ripped across her stomach. They were deep and sucking the life out of her. Her eyes were dull as she looked up at me and weakly smiled. I squeezed my eyes shut and finally let some tears fall. She may die and I could've prevented it, I could've protected them.

"Don't... cry... I... love *cough* you so... much... protect... him *cough*... please." She choked as she brought my head down and kissed me.

"N-no. Please. I can save you," I ran a hand through her hair, "Please don't go. Just hang in there, okay? I know you can do it. I can't lose you. Please just pl-" I was cut off by Y/n crashing her lips into mine. I kissed back and felt her life slowly slip away. When we parted I gazed at her, she was so peaceful, she was smiling. It hurt me, I never want to see her like this . Then I looked over to Tareo who was crying. As I went to hug him he vanished, then she vanished also. Everything went black and cold. I looked down at my hands, they were clean now, and stayed on my knees, motionless. Was this actually a dream?

*he wakes up*

My body was hot and sweaty , my mouth was dry and my heart was racing. I hyperventilated as my eyes darted around the room looking for Y/n. She was still curled up in my arms. I couldn't tell if she was breathing and I panicked. My hands quickly went to her cheeks and pulled her face toward mine. The pads of my thumbs stroked her cheeks as a few of my tears dropped onto her face. I was so relieved when she woke up and looked back at me.

"H-huh? Garou.... what the... my face is wet? Are you okay? " She slurred half asleep. Her eyes were barely open.

"Yeah... Just fine."

"But you're crying... I think... one of us is..." I tried to hide my sniffle, "Come here you big baby." She slurred as she pulled me into her chest. As embarrassing as it was, I appreciated it. Her embrace was comforting. One of her hands massaged my scalp while the other rubbed my back as she whispered nurturing words to me. The hand in my hair was so gentle with its touch. It was so loving, "Garou... I know I'm holding you and you're crying but you always make me feel safe."

"How? I got scared of a damn dream."

"We're all scared of something. Even the strongest hero or monster is scared of something. It doesn't make you weak. It can make you stronger," she paused and took a few seconds, "Whatever it was must've really scared you. Are you gonna tell me what it was?" She was still half asleep but slowly waking up.

"I... maybe next time. Let's just go back to sleep."

"Alright. Good night." She said as she kissed my forehead. I tried my hardest not to think of the nightmare and to just go to sleep.

*few month time skip*

Y/n's POV

One morning, I woke up early, at about 6:30 am. My phone rang and my boss's contact showed up. I was told that it would be my responsibility to open up the restaurant for about a week because she was going somewhere. It didn't bother me because she said I was getting a huge pay raise and a possible promotion. I did my morning routine and got dressed for work. Before I left, I wrote a note and left some food for Garou.

*3 weeks later*

My schedule was changed quite a bit. Me going to work much earlier than usual didn't mean I was gonna go back home earlier. I stayed from the time the restaurant opened to the time it closed. Me and Hiro would be in the restaurant all day. In the morning we sit at a table and chat while drinking some coffee or tea. After we do that, we take the tables and stuff down. Then at night we just sit and talk and laugh with each other. There's been a few times when I feel like we're being watched but I just brush it off.

Sometimes we dance with each other in the restaurant when it's only the two of us. I guess our boss didn't tell him that she was going somewhere so she probably told him to be there in the event I wasn't able to make it. I didn't mind at all though, being alone was undesirable for me. Me and Hiro haven't spent time together for a while, especially since he was in a relationship.

Since I'm at work all the time now, I can't spend much time with Garou. He stops in the restaurant occasionally to talk then he goes off and does his hero hunting. Bad comes in sometimes whether he's with Zenko or not. Saitama and Genos come in too. My friends come in and ask where I've been because they haven't seen me in a while. I haven't really had any time for myself. Especially since my boss's trip is taking way longer than expected. One day, when I was walking home, I heard two voices from an alley to the left of me. I was being nosy and snuck down the alley to see... well hear... what was going on. There was a male and female voice and the male sounded familiar, like Garou's voice. When I peeked around the corner, my suspicion was confirmed. When I listened closely to the conversation, they were flirting. I was... hurt. I got up and snuck away. I ran all the way to my apartment with blurry vision. When I got home I broke down on the couch. My uniform was super uncomfortable but I didn't feel like going in my room to change. There was an under shirt under my uniform so I took off the top layer. I sighed and let the tears flow.

'What an idiot. Thinking he'd actually like me. It's fine, I won't be home anyway. He can do what he wants. But what if he... brings someone here... and...'

I started overthinking, silently crying in the process and eventually passing out.
