Chapter Seventeen: Zabuza Momochi

I put my finger in the glistening water, letting it swim with the boat we are now on. The fog is so thick I can barely see more than a couple feet in front of me.

"A Lily in the water." Naruto jokes as I pull my hand out off the water.

"Oh haha, Blondie." I roll my eyes, drying my hand on his orange jacket, receiving a playful glare.

The water and the mist remind me of the Yoshida Compound. Furthermore, it reminds me of my uncle and siblings. If they're healthy, happy, missing me? I wonder what has become of my polar opposite siblings.

"This fog is so think, you can't see anything." Sakura says barely above a whisper. It's also quiet, all I can hear is the boat is rower move the paddle in and out of the water. The environment around us feels gentle but also eerie.

"The bridge isn't far, our destination is just ahead." The rower informs us.

Naruto sits at the front, facing forward with a grin on his face. The boat has no seats, so we merely sit randomly in it. I sit in between Naruto and Sasuke, Sakura across from me. Kakashi sits nexts to Sasuke and Tazuna sits at the back, body facing forward as well.

Many pieces of metals, a crane, and other materials come into view as we get closer to an unfinished bridge. It is quite the impressive structure, funny to think a drunk like Tazuna is the mastermind behind it.

"Woah! It's huge!" Naruto exclaims.

"Quiet." The rower hisses, "Why do you think I cut the engine off. We're moving through the fog so they won't see us."

At this I raise a brow and jerk my head over to Tazuna, "Who did you piss off?"

"What, brat?" Tazuna asks, surprised by my directness.

"Though Lily's rather blunt, Mr. Tazuna, I'd like to know as well." Kakashi speaks up. "Before we reach the pier, I need to know why these men are after you. If you don't tell us, I'm afraid we'll have to end this mission once we've reached the shore."

"I have no choice but to tell you." Tazuna decides, "No, I want you to know the truth. Like you said, this is beyond the scope of the original mission. The one who seeks my life is a very short man who casts a very long and deadly shadow."

Wow, way to be dramatic and getting to the point.

"A deadly shadow?" Kakashi repeats, "Who is it?"

"You know him, at least I'm sure you've heard his name before." Tazuna says, "He's one of the wealthiest men in the world. The shipping magnet: Gato."

"Gato?" Kakashi's visible eye widens, "Of Gato Transport? He's a business leader."

"Who? What?" Naruto asks, eager to know more.

"Gato is a very powerful tycoon from a famous company." Tazuna clarifies, "But, below the surface, he sells drugs and contraband using gangs and ninja. It was one year ago that he came to our island and used his vast wealth to take total control of our transport and shipping. Anyone who tried to stop him was simply killed. In an island nation, a man who controls the sea controls everything, including our very lives. But, he fears the bridge. When it is complete, it will join us to the land and break his control. I am the bridge builder."

"Wow, as corrupt as they come." I sigh.

"So, since you're in charge of building the bridge, you're standing in this gangster's way." Sakura says.

"That means, those guys we fought in the forest, they were working for Gato." Sasuke adds.

"I dont understand. If you knew he was dangerous, knew he would send ninja to eliminate you, why did you hide that from us?" Kakashi demands.
