Chapter Twenty Three: Sasuke's Ego

We stand outside of the academy waiting for Sakura to arrive. She's a bit late, but we still have enough time.

"So, what are you two thinking about?" I ask. We've been sitting in silence for a while and I'm getting bored. I didn't even know Naruto could be this quiet.

"I'm going to pummel all of the competition!" Naruto exclaims, "That includes Sasuke!"

"Whatever, loser." The Uchiha says, trying his best to
ignore the blonde.

"Of course...." I mutter, "What about you, Uchiha? What's going on in that big head of yours?"

"Is this your idea of a conversation starter?" He raises a brow at me.

"Excuse me, for wanting to stir up some small talk. I forgot you choose to talk only when your ego calls for it." I say.

Naruto chuckles, "So, what are you thinking about, Lily?"

"I'm just glad we don't have to pick anymore weeds or babysit kids for a while." I say. Seriously, they accidentally send us on an A rank mission, which we succeeded, and they still think we're only capable or doing yard work.

"For once, I agree." Sasuke says.

"Yeah, I was gonna lose it if one more kid threw up on me, believe it." Naruto adds. Then, Sakura comes strolling up to us, "Sakura, you're late."

"Yeah, sorry..." She appologizes. Her gaze adverts to Sasuke, "Good morning, Sasuke."

She seems a lot more gentle than usual. Maybe these exams are plucking at her nerves. Genin from everywhere are coming to participate in these exams...

It'll be fine, what could go wrong?

We walk up two flight of stairs. On the second floor we are met with a crowd of people surrounding a door that is labeled, '301'. I thought we were only on the second floor?

I see a boy sitting on the floor. A girl is punched back on the ground next to him. That's when I see the two boys gaurding the door.

"We're doing all of you a favor." One of them proclaims, "Some of you won't survive while others will be scarred for life."

"You guys think this is a joke?" The other continues, "Chunin are qualified to lead a squad. The lives of your teammates are your responsibility. Weak little girls don't belong here."

"That's great and all but can you guys move?" I say.
"You're wasting our time."

What is the point of holding us up like this? Don't they have to that the exam aswell? So what's the point of even staying out here?

"What was that?" One of them snaps.

"Drop the Genjutsu while your at it." Sasuke says.

"So you noticed?"

"It was obvious." Sasuke scoffs, "I'm sure you caught on before anyone else, Sakura. You do have the best analytical skills of our team." Looks like someone is feeling kind today. Cocky, but kind nonetheless.

"Huh?" The girl replies, "Oh... Yeah, I knew. This is only the second floor."

The numbers on the sign morph back to their original form. Room 201.

"So, you caught on to that. But can you catch this!" He lifts his leg, thrusting towards Sasuke. My teammate isn't one to be caught off gaurd and he lifts his leg to block the attack. However, their legs never meet.
