Chapter 2

P.O.V Tobias

It's a day or 2 after the reaping. I still see the reaping in my head. It's horrible. We're still on the train to the capitol. Let's introduce me first: I'm Tobias from district 7, I'm 18 years old and I volunteered this reaping for a kid from 12 years old that has down syndrome.

I'll tell how it went: So it was the day of the reaping. I wasn't that nervous. It was my last year and almost impossible that I would get reaped. I went to the reaping with my dad, my mom stayed home. She just didn't want to come. I prefered her here than my dad. He kind of gets emotional every time we walk to the reaping. It's pretty stupid though. At 11:30 everyone was at the square for the reaping. The woman from the capitol ( I call her pinkie) she is ALWAYS  dressed in a bright pink colour. Her hair is some pastel pink. At 12:00 the first name was picked: Jeanine Matthews. Ugh, she is pretty horrible. I know her from school. She is one class lower than me, she is 17. When I'm around with some friends she always acts flirty. My friends say that she is crushing on me pretty hard, but I don't really care. I don't like her, the end. 

Then it was at the reaping the turn for the boys. They picked a name, Peter Hayes. Oh my... They can't do that, can they? Peter has down. I always really liked that boy, we grew up as neighbours. We practically grew up as brothers. Peter is really nice. I couldn't keep seeing this and screamed:'' I volunteer!!'' I don't know what was going on in my mind but I couldn't see Peter in the arena and probably die. I volunteered for him. His mom brought him to the back. I saw tears in her eyes. His mom was almost my mom. She is really sweet. She thought of me as her second son. I went to the stage. We were taken by guardians. 

In the room where we got to have a last talk with our families, my dad came inside with tears in his eyes. He told me that mom wouldn't come to say goodbye, she knew I was strong and stuff. I knew that too, but probably not good enough to win the games. I hugged my dad, it was pretty uncomfortable. But okay, it's my dad. When my dad had to leave Peter and his parents came inside. Peter ran to me and hugged me, this hug was so much less awkward.  Peter told in his words that he is gonna miss my lot, but that he would see me as soon as I would come home. I didn't think Peter knows that I probably wouldn't return, well alive. If you die in the arena your body is brought to your home. Peter's parents wished me every luck in the world. They had to leave. Then it was just me

That was like my reaping story. In the meanwhile, I'm on the train to the capitol. During the trip, we've seen all the reapings. They weren't really people that I noticed, well there were 2. The girl from 10 and a boy from 2, I know the boy is a career. But I had some feeling he is good to start an ally with (and with the girl from 10) I had some feeling that we would be a pretty good ally. 

The most horrible thing about the trip was that Jeanine was like the whole time with me. She flirted so much. It was pretty horrible. Pinkie saw that I kind of hated it and she split us. (Oh yeah, her real name even is Pinkie, She doesn't want to tell her real name) I started to like pinkie. She helped us pretty good. Our mentor Johanna Mason was pretty angry most of the time. I had a feeling she didn't even like to go back to the capitol. We both tried to talk with her. She seemed pretty interested in our weaknesses and strengths. I told here mine: 

Strengths: Handy with many weapons, a strong, fast, good swimmer, mentally strong, wasn't fast distracted, good climber, trustable, tries to be friendly

Weaknesses: hights, my dad (see  the divergent books) claustrophobia and kill loved ones

Johanna was pretty surprised that I only had 4  weakness. Jeanine seemed to have a lot more. Johanna already knew Jeanine wouldn't survive pretty long in the arena. She had more confidence in me. I also tried to ask Johanna more about the girl from 10 and the boy from 2, She told some basic information about them because she still had contact with their mentors. The girl her name is Beatris (she prefers Tris) She is 16 years old. Has got good strengths.  The boy from 2 his name was Al, he seemed okay, as careers they train their whole life. Al is 18 and got reaped. How? I don't know. I always hear stories that there have been fights in 1, 2 &4 about who would be in the games. Pretty weird. Al seemed also pretty soft though. So he really needed an ally. His strengths? Strenght

When we arrived a couple of days later at the train station of the capitol everyone was waving and stuff. I almost started laughing because all those people looked pretty ridiculous but funny. I kept my laugh in me. I started waving at the people. They were really happy. I think many of them wanted to see us die. I asked or Jeanine wanted to come to the window. She seemed pretty mad at me. Don't know why maybe because she saw that I wanted the girl from 10 as an ally. She is pretty fast jealous. I told her that I didn't start love things. She was still mad and returned to her cabin. Weird girl.
