Chapter 18

P.O.V Tobias

When Tris woke me around 7:00 AM it was still pretty dark outside. Something said to me that this would be our last day in the arena, dead or alive. I said to Tris when we finished the small breakfast that we didn't have any water anymore. When we packed our backs (We probably wouldn't go back to the cave again) We walked to the lake we found earlier. It was gone! It had disappeared or something because the lake was dry and there wasn't even a hole anymore. I think the game makers wanted all the tributes together. We walked to the cornucopia. Filled our bottles, why even? Then we saw the girl from one. Her hair was full of branches. Her face was under the scratches. She also had blood on her face. Her own blood. What happened to her? Then we heard something from the woods. It sounded like dogs, but then more wolves. When Tris and I saw the mutts we ran to the cornucopia and tried to climb on it. First I helped her, then she helped me. I think we would be safe here. It was 4 metres high. The girl from 1 was still running with the mutts on her heels. When she was at the cornucopia she was able to climb on it on her own, even with mutts pulling her down. She made it on the cornucopia. Tris and I saw her struggling. On one way I wanted to help. On the other one not. Then something struck me. The mutts had the eyes of the fallen tributes. I saw Al's first, then those from Jeanine and one of the back mutts had Zeke's eyes. I didn't really recognize any other eyes. When the girl was on the cornucopia she was dirty of her own blood, had wounds everywhere. Even with medicines, she wouldn't survive long. Then the girl said something really unexpected: ''Okay, uhm. Can one of you guys kill me, please? I don't want to get killed by something capitol made! I am already dead inside. My whole life is planned. I didn't have any plans when I couldn't participate in the games anymore. My life doesn't make sense. Please just kill me.'' I really was shocked by what the girl said. Did more careers had these thoughts when they died. Or was it just this girl? I looked Tris in the eyes and we nodded she said: '' Okay if you want to get killed. I think it's fair if you choose which of us kills you.'' The girl chose to get killed by Tris. This would be the first time and probably the last that she would kill someone. During the games, she only fought but didn't kill. The girl also gave some last word speech: ''Mom, dad I love you so much. I really mean what I say. But this is my life. I decide to die young. I don't have a clue what to do with my life. I never had. I love you so much. Never forget that I'll always be in your hearts.'' The girl nodded. This was the moment. Tris asked me for my axe. I gave her it. Tris threw it right at her heart. The girl fell, dead. The mutts didn't eat her body, they picked it up or something and dropped it before the lake. We saw her get picked up by a drone. 

It got light very fast like some knob was set on for light. We helped each other of the cornucopia. Then the game maker voice said: ''Dear tributes. There are at the moment just 2 other tributes left. One of the most special 2 tributes ever. Tributes in love, in a relation! We all want these tributes to living a happy life. To live together! To win both. There is one option. Tobias Eaton knows what this option is. You are maybe too young for it, but you can take as long as you want. We'll say. Take it away!!'' Tris asked what they meant but I knew exactly what they meant. To go together out of the arena I had to ask Tris to marry me, but she was too young for it. She's just 16, I'm turning in 4 months 19. I had to do it to have us both alive out of these stupid games and stupid arena. I said: "Tris, I love you so so much. It's maybe a bit fast to ask this, but I know I would do this the moment I saw you for the first time at your reaping. So, Beatrice Prior, will you marry me?'' ''I... I... yes!!'' Yes!! She said yes. I think she knows also by herself that she's still 2 years too young to marry, but when the time is there we will. I don't think we'll break up in that time, maybe some fights, but that's just the reality of having a relationship. I asked myself also what my parents would think of this. My mom would probably think that it is a bad idea, my dad will support me. Peter would be so happy. I think he will like Tris and she will like Peter. Peter's parents would ask me how I would let the long-distance thing work. I'll figure it out in some way.
