Chapter 9 - The arena

Today the last training would take place and tomorrow around 12:00 we would go into the arena. I'm so so nervous. What if I get killed during the bloodbath because I really wanted to get a backpack at the cornucopia. During the training, I told to Tobias that he won the agreement and that we would be allies with us 3 in the arena. He was really happy about it. Al was also really happy about it. At dinner, I ate as much as I could because then the first days in the arena I wouldn't need a lot of  food. I went to bed on time. 

At breakfast I ate really much, I even fell a bit sick. At 10:00 we had to arrive at the entry of the building where we would take the train to the arena. In the train, I was so nervous. We were with all the tributes in a couple of cabins. the first 20 minutes I spent with Zeke the rest I spent with Al and Tobias. Al was a bit scared that he wouldn't survive the bloodbath either. Tobias suggested that we would have a place to meet around the cornucopia because in most of the arenas the cornucopia was in the middle. We decided that we would sign each other when we were in the arena. Signing like when we would be on our start platforms. Search each other as fast as possible. Tobias would give the sign. Al would go to the place. Tobias and I would go to the cornucopia to grab a backpack and weapons. After 1 hour with the train, we arrived in some hall with stairs that only went down. Everyone got split. When I arrived in my room Eric was there with the uniform in his hands. It was a really normal outfit. It was were black dungarees (garden trousers) that were really flexible and I totally white t-shirt. With this outfit, it could be a lot of arenas. Eric told me that the only 2 options were an open field with forest around it or something with loads of water. I thought it would be the second one because why would there otherwise be swimming pools in some apartments. Eric helped me with a good ponytail. When I was finished we both heard a voice saying: ''Tributes on your plates in 1 minute.'' I didn't want to go stand on the plate yet, but Eric told me it would be smarter. I gave him a last hug and went to the platform. When the voice said that I still had 45 seconds a glass wall went around it. I knew I couldn't step of anymore.

The plate went up and We all had a first look at the arena. It looked like my home.....It was an open field with some bushes at it I searched Tobias and Al. Tobias was 3 plates from me and al 7, Tobias pointed behind him where the forest started. There were stones behind him where Al had to run to. I saw that he understood it. The voice started counting down from 20. I took a fast look at the cornucopia. I saw loads of backpacks and a small number of weapons. I saw a backpack were 4 knives were pointing out. I decided to go for that one. The voice counted down from 10. My hands started sweating like idiots. I took a fast glance at Tobias and Al. The voice said: Happy Hunger Games and may the odds be in your favour. That's the moment when we could step of our plates and I started running as fast as I could. When I arrived at the cornucopia I already saw some bodies and many backpacks were already taken. I saw Tobias nowhere. I had the time to grab the backpack I wanted. I decided to grab another one for all. I didn't saw that someone was attacking me from the back It was the girl from 4, a career. I grabbed a knife from the backpack and tried to defend myself, but she was faster and threw a knife and me. I dodged it, turned around because the girl that attacked me was killed by I think it was the boy from 3. I ran as fast as I could before the boy would kill me. I ran to the stones where Al was waiting for me. He was a bit hidden. Tobias wasn't there yet. I didn't see him on the field anymore. I gave Al his backpack. We waited a couple more minutes. No Tobias, what if he was already dead?! He couldn't be, right?? Then I heard something in our back. I turned around as fast as I could around at good lord it was Tobias, but he was bleeding on his arm. He said that he fell like he could pass out every minute because a nerve was wrecked. He was right not 30 seconds later he passed out. I didn't know what to do because we couldn't stay here.  Al said that he could lift Tobias. It was our only option. None of us knew how long he would stay out. Al and I went further in the forest and searched a place to stay until Tobias was awake. After hours we still didn't found a place. Tobias was still unconscious. We didn't saw any other tributes. Where would they be? Would some of them still fight? That's the moment when we heard the first cannons. The fights were over. We heard 8 cannons. To be sure I felt Tobias his heartbeat, just to make sure he would still live. And he did, but the beats were really weak. 

After walking another hour we finally found a place. It was a cave covered with grass. The entry was very small, but we got in. There weren't any other tributes in our cave. In the time we waited before Tobias would be conscious again we opened our backpacks. Tobias also had one. In the three backpacks we found 3 bottles all of them were filled, but only 50%, we also found a small amount of food. It was packed neatly in plastic, but I never saw it. On the package was written: stroopwafels.'' I didn't know it. I never heard of it. I knew one thing it looked pretty nice. Together we had 12 Stroopwafels. Al and I decided to share 1. They were so delicious. It was like a cookie with syrup in it. In the backpacks, we also found something called:'' Drop'' It was black. I counted them fast and we had 10 of them. They were really small. We decide to keep it in the package closed. We also found an extra hoodie. Why? It was really warm today? We also found a small blanket for 2 persons. In my backpack, there were 6 knives and a bow, but only 3 arrows and a slingshot. Tobias had also an axe with him. He wasn't still awake. Al and I decide to take some things to braid a door to hide the cave a bit.

After braiding half an hour Tobias woke up. I said:'' Good afternoon sunshine, you've been gone for almost 5 hours...Good luck you have us, we brought you to a cave. Al took care of your wound and made it stop bleeding. You lost a lot of blood, so you will a bit dizzy, take some food!'' Tobias sat straight and ate a stroopwafel and said:'' Hey I know this food, people I know have it. It's something from the Netherlands!'' While Tobias was eating his stroopwafel we told how the games were until now. When he was finished with his stroopwafel it was pretty dark outside already. I think it was something like 8:00 PM when we heard the national anthem. we walked outside the cave to see who died. I knew no one of them. It was the girl from 4, both tributes from 11, the boy from 5, The girl from 2 (Al was really shocked when he saw her)  and both tributes from 6. I was really refused when I didn't saw Zeke. He was still alive... For the night Tobias would keep the guard first, he had much energy because he was passed out most of the time in the arena. I wasn't tired either, but Al was. He fell asleep quite fast. It was really cold, even in the closed cage. Al took the hoodie and Tobias an I took the blanket. In the tame Al slept Tobias and I just talked. We were probably filmed right now, but I didn't really care About a couple of hours later we woke Al. It was my turn to sleep. So I took the hoodie that was a bit stretched because Al was bigger than me. I laid down and fell asleep quite fast.
