I scanned the shelf slowly, brushing my fingers against the worn out spines of books I'd read what felt like a thousand times, my eyes peaked through the space left between the book and the shelf above it with more books. He was bent over a new book, how he loved his fiction, his red hair had darken through the ages, brighter when the sun gazed upon it as it did then by his seat by the window.

A small smirk played upon his lips, it cause the small, barely noticeable scar just under his nose to twitch, a scar he had earned himself when he thought he could learn to fight with a sword two years ago.

"Are you going to pick something or continue to ogle at me from afar?" I paused in my slow walk to narrow my eyes at him.

"Are you implying that I like looking at you?" He raised his head with a challenging smirk, his brow raised.

"Who wouldn't with a face like mine, I'm surprised you haven't proposed to me yet." I rolled my eyes then and turned my back at the vocal and smug 16 year old boy.

"I wonder where this confidence came from, it feels like not too long ago you worried that with enough time, the horses would run from you." I reminded him scanning books based on politics.

"You and I both know that was not the reason I worried." I could feel him roll his eye which had me smiling as I picked a book I don't recall ever gazing upon.

I moved to sit across from him with my options and he groaned.

"Why can't you ever settle on something more rewarding?" He whined reaching for my options and pulling one towards him as I skimmed through the first few pages of the other.

"What could be more rewarding?" I glanced at his choice. "I doubt you learn anything useful from- 'The tale of Quinifer Fair', what is that even about?"

"A brave young woman making a name for herself in the harsh world of men who tell her what to do. It is very rewarding." He stuck his tongue out after he spoke matter of fact, shaking my head with a chuckle, I looked down at my book.

"I'm sure my sister recommended it."

"...no."

I laughed paging through the work of pure nonsense. The book focused on the hierarchy of our kingdom and the way it came to be, giving detailed accounts of the decision of rule which had been of course the man with the most money. I chuckled shaking my head.

"You know, someone's gonna visit you today." I looked up sharply and narrowed my gaze at Marius who hummed to himself.

"Who?" He smirked while his eyes fluttered through his pages. "Marius!" I whined undignified.

"Linnet requested to have tea with Zyandra." He didn't meet my eyes as his amusement came through his words. "We all know why that is."

"By the heavens." I slapped my hand over my head in irritation and shook it. "However, I've noticed her attendance all week and she has yet to say a word to me. Do you think I could ask about the key you saw?" I wondered aloud.

Marius looked up then with brows raised.

"You've seen her and have yet to ask?" I shrugged and leaned back.
