"Sonia, wait!"

Hindi pa man ako nakalalayo ay nahila na ni Iain ang kamay ko.

"What?"

"I... I have to tell you some things."

My forehead creased. "Can it wait? Kailangan kong makausap si Kylo."

"I think it's best if you listen to me first."

"Okay? Tungkol saan ba?"

Naupo ako sa couch at tiningala siya. He's towering over me. He noticed it so he sat beside me.

"I had those accidents investigated and there were some things that I learned."

Hindi ako nagsalita at hinayaan siyang magpatuloy. Kahit pa nagulat sa panimula niya ay ininda ko iyon. Pakiramdam ko mas magugulat ako sa mga susunod niyang sasabihin.

"Your father had a deal with the Tancincos. Kasama sa deal na iyon ang partnership sa construction ng mga building na gagamitin sa asukarera ninyo. The materials were provided and approved by your father. Ang construction ay nakaatas mismo sa mga Tancinco."

"I already know that."

My father wanted to be in charge with the materials because we have a connection with various trusted suppliers. Ayaw niya ng ipagkatiwala iyon sa mga Tancinco.

"But your father was fooled. Some of the materials provided were substandard."

I shifted on my seat with what I heard.

"Sino naman ang nangloko kay Dad? He has the eye for quality materials."

"The paid purchase listed the materials he wanted. Pero nang dumating na para sa construction ay napalitan ang ibang materyales. The Tancincos noticed but ignored it."

"What? Why would they do that? Kung napansin nila, bakit hindi ini-report kay Dad?"

"Because the Tancincos were the ones responsible for why it happened in the first place. They intercepted the shipment of materials and turned a blind eye on it."

Natahimik ako at prinoseso ang narinig sa utak ko. Kailanman ay hindi nakuha ng mga nakatatandang Tancinco ang loob ko. To think that they went to these lengths make my blood boil.

"Okay, so basically they played my Dad with their partnership. Ano pa?"

Iain rested his arm on the backrest. Humarap din siya sa akin at mataman akong tinitigan.

"The accidents were staged. Sinadya ang pagkabangga ng delivery trucks para gumuho ang mahinang parte ng buildings. It just looked like an accident because they make it look like so. Drunk driver and faulty brakes."

My lips parted with disbelief. The hell?! Kahit pa naisip ko na maaari ngang planado iyon ay nagulat pa rin ako na marinig na totoo nga ang hinala ko.

Unti-unting namumuo ang galit sa dugo ko. Why the fuck would the Tancincos do that?!

"That was just the surface of it. Your dad confronted the Tancincos about it. Ang sabi ay wala silang alam sa nangyari. That they shouldn't be blamed because their reputation as one of the leading construction companies got bruised too with those accidents and casualties."

"And they're just willing to risk that for what? Wala naman silang makukuha sa amin dahil doon! What good would it bring them if they fool my father like that? It doesn't make any sense!"

Bukod sa dungis sa reputasyon nila ay wala na akong maisip na dahilan. That was just so stupid.

Iain tilted his head a bit- an indication that he's annoyed by something.
