I Found You

Chapter 10

After my birthday dinner, I'm so full I can barely move. I go up to my room to lay down. I don't know when or how I fell asleep but the next thing I know I was waking up to the sound of my alarm. I start getting ready for school. Just as I walk downstairs Jordan texts me to tell me he's here. "Mom where's Lex" I yell to mom. "She's sick." Mom calls back. Weird Lex seemed fine yesterday.

"Where's Lex? Is Jake driving her again?" Jordan asks as soon as I'm in the car. "No, she's sick, looks like you stuck with just me," I say jokingly. I decided to ask him if he knows what Dani and Jade planned when they decided to go apartment hunting. Neither I or Lacy has talked about it and I really want to know what I'm walking into before talking to Jade. "Jade wants you her and Lacy to look at some apartments online and then she said she will look at the over spring break while in Halifax." He says. I guess that's not so bad at least she's going to look at apartments we all like.

I'm just about to walk into Biology, when my phones "Hey, dad I'm about to walk into class can I call you at lunch?" "I'm on my way to pick you up, Lex needs surgery, meet me at the front of the school." How is this possible, she was fine yesterday, and my mom only said she was sick nothing about her being that sick. I run to the front of the school as fast as I can. *Lex needs surgery, my dads coming to pick me up* I text to Lacy, Jade, Jordan, Dani, and Jake. I don't know how to feel or think. I'm shaking and sweating, and by the time my dad gets there I'm having a panic attack. "Logan looks at me, it's okay but we have to go." He says as he takes my hand and leads me to the car. "What happened mom said she was sick. How did that turn into her need surgery?" I ask my dad when we get to the hospital "She was saying he side really hurt and so we decided to take her to the hospital I thought it was her appendix but I haven't worked in general for years, when we got to the hospital they confirmed it, just before they took her into surgery they are pretty sure her appendix burst." My dad says with tears in his eyes. I always wanted to be a neurosurgeon like my dad but I know enough about human anatomy to know that you want to get the appendix out before the little sack of poison burst.

We get to the hospital waiting room and my mom fills us in with everything we missed, basically, they took her into surgery just after my dad left to come to get me and she hasn't heard anything else yet. I check my phone; I have a text from Jordan *is everything ok? Let me know if u or ur mom or dad need anything, I love u baby* I want to tell him to come here and sit with me but he has school. I fell like my world is crashing down and as bad as it sounds, I just want Jordan to me here. I'm lost in thought when I see Jake walk in. Oh no, my mom and dad have only met Jake a couple of times and I don't think they really approve. "Mr. and Mrs. Hills" mistake number one, my dad is a doctor. "I'm Jake Lex's boyfriend, Logan told me she was having surgery, is she going to be okay?" He sounds like he is about to cry. My dad tells him the same thing he told me. When my dad is done Jake says thank you and turns to walk away. Surprising both me and Jake my mom grabs his arm and tells him that as long as it's okay with his parents he can stay with us until Lex gets out of surgery. My parents aren't shy about their feeling about people so Jake definitely knows my parents don't like him.

It feels like an eternity later when Dr. Hurtbert a friend of my dads walks out. "Lex did great. She's not awake yet but you can go see her if you like." She says. I can finally breathe again now that I know Lex is okay. My parents invite Jake to come with us and he does. When we get to her room, she's still asleep. Dr. Hurtbert tells us that Lex has to stay overnight and she will have to take it easy for a few weeks. A few minutes later Lex opens her eyes and I wrap my arms around her without even thinking about the fact that she literally just had surgery. "Can't breathe." Lex says and everyone laughs. I stay with Lex until my mom tell me I should go home, and that she and dad are going to stay with Lex tonight. Jake offers to drive me home I accept since my dad drove me here so I don't really have any other way of getting home.

When I get home, I text everyone to tell them Lex is okay, they are keeping her overnight just to make sure. Lacy asks me if I want to spend the night at her place. I really don't want to be alone tonight, plus it is her birthday. I tell her I'll be right over.

When I get her house, her mom Karen meets me at the door. "Hey sweetie, I'm sorry about Lex I'm glad she's okay give her a hug for me, will you?" Karen says. "I will Karen," I say. Other than Jordan's parent the only other parent I have ever called by their first name is Karen. I have known Lacy since before we started school, we use to live next door to her before we moved into our current house. "Mom stop trying to steal my friends" Lacy jokes as she walks into the room. They have the best relationship between a mother and a daughter I have ever seen. "You're just jealous Logan likes me more" She jokes back. "Shh Karen you can't tell people it will ruin my rep at school" I tease and we all laugh. This house has always felt like home. I use to be closer to Lacy and her family than I was with my own family. "You can sleep in Lacy's room our Luke's old room. The choice is yours." Karen says as she walks upstairs. "I'll sleep in your room with you if that's okay. Sleeping in Luke's room is too weird for me." I say to Lacy. Luke is Lacy's older brother he graduated three years ago and got a job at the mayor's office while still in college, so he moved out of this house and moved into my old house with his girlfriend Jill.

Lacy and I head up to her room, we turn on a movie and lay down to sleep. I lay in Lacy's bed for hours trying to sleep but nothing works. I know Lex is okay, but I'm still worried about her. Also, what was with my mom and dad today. They were so nice to Jake and they are never nice to people they don't like, no matter the circumstance.

When I finally do get sleep, I have nightmares about Lex needing another surgery and dying from it. When Lacy's alarm, goes off I'm not ready to get up, Lacy literally pulls me off her bed. When I'm finally awake I realize it's Lacy's birthday. "HAPPY 18th BIRTHDAY" I yell as loud as I possibly can. It's something I have been doing to Lacy for as long as I can remember and it scares her every single year, and it always makes me laugh. "Logan, why do you insist on screaming at Lacy every year?" Karen asks when we make it downstairs. "Because it always scares her. You think after 15 birthday she would be used to it." I say with a laugh. Lacy shakes her head at us. "Why don't you take the day off school and go shopping or something trusts me the principal won't mind, and I talked to Mike and Lilly they are okay with it too," Karen says. First, my mom and dad are nice to Jake then they say I can skip school. We decide to make a trip to Sudbury, it's the closest city to our small town. We text Jade to see if she can come with us, she says her mom already talked to Lacy's mom and she said yes. We stop by to pick her up on her way out of town. "We should pick up some stuff for our future apartment" Lacy suggested. "Yes, like cute décor, like pictures and pillows!" Jade adds. I can't help but laugh listening to them talk about our future apartment. We use to talk about it in a hypothetical sense, but now it actually a reality.

We go to every store in the mall. By the time we are done its only 3. We have pictures, knick-knacks, pillows, throw blankets, and more for our future apartment. On our way home Jade drives and I call my mom to check up on Lex. She doing great and will be going back to school Monday. Today was a great day all in all. When we get back to our little town, I drop off Lacy and Jade and head home to see Lex.

"Hey, Lex how you feeling?" I ask as soon as I see her. She spending a few nights on the couch so she doesn't have to walk up and down the stairs. "I'm fine, just a little sore that's all," she says. "Want to watch a movie with me?" she asks. I was planning on going to my room to do homework, but how do I say no to her. We watch a movie about a good girl who falls in love with some tattooed boy. I cringe at the girl's name, but other than that it's an amazing movie. "Its also a book" Lex informs me. She knows I love movies that are also books. I don't know why but for some reason I also like the move so much more after reading the book. After the movie I go to my room I have to get working on some homework before I go to bed. Chemistry isn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be. Biology, on the other hand, I'm really struggling with. Thank god Brad is my lab partner, he won't let me fail. It's after midnight before I finish my Biology homework. I fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow.

I don't want to get up the next morning. I have to start going to bed earlier. I'm not going to make it through this semester if I don't start going to bed earlier. I skip the shower this morning and walk downstairs to the kitchen I need coffee. By the time I finish my coffee Jordan's here to pick me up and Jake is here to check on Lex. I glad she finally found someone who really cares about her. "I love you, baby, I'll see you after school okay." I hear Jake say as I walk through the door. Knowing my sister finally has a good guy makes me smile. I am so happy for her.
