While hanging out the next morning, Bee gathered up the courage to ask Raven about performing the time reversal spell again. To her dismay, Raven wasn't overly enthusiastic about its potential success rate. She wasn't sure the spell would work as effectively as it had before since she had already performed it once. She had also read about the side effects increasing with each time so Cyborg would likely suffer the consequences. Ultimately, she told Bee to think about it for a day while she did extra research.
While Raven was busy, Beastboy and Damien went to the city to pick up lunch for Raven and kill some time out of the tower. The two walked the mall since Damien needed some clothes. He packed poorly in Gotham due to running away and he was tired of wearing the same three outfits. Beastboy sat in chair in the department store as Damien tried on some jeans.
"So how long did you live with Rob—I mean Nightwing?" Beastboy asked through the door.
"A round five years..." Damien said as he zipped up the jeans and inspected the fit.
"What was he like? As a kid I mean?" Beastboy asked as Damien opened the door with jeans in his arms.
"Very angry at first. He was just pissed at the world, pissed at Bruce, pissed at everything. Bruce was fine and all but Robin always got the worst of it..." he paused the conversation to go purchase the jeans. Once he had the bag in hand and they walked away from the register's earshot, Damien continued. "He took me under his wing when Bruce got bad, he'd play with me and stuff, but he never let loose. I don't think he ever got to be a kid, ya know?" He filled in Beastboy, ending the conversation much more solemnly than either had intended.
They went to a video game store next and Beastboy looked for some new games. Beastboy was so engrossed in a game disc that he didn't notice the blonde worker that gave Damien a free game and controller.
"Dude! Look what I just got!!" Damien ran up to Beastboy with the bag marked 'free'. Beastboy pulled the controller out of the bag and held in in his hands. The second his right hand gripped the controller, there was a stabbing shock in his right hand that caused Beastboy to drop the controller in the store.
"Ow! Who gave this to you!?" Beastboy snarled.
"Um, the lady who works here said she's clearing out old inventory and said we could have it!" He said pointing to where she was, but she was gone. Mumbling about the pain in his hand, Beastboy had Damien toss the game and controller in his backpack as they went on to the next store.
After a few more stores, Damien and Beastboy brought lunch home for Raven. She was alone in her room, reading, as Beastboy came in with the stir fry. He set the food down and laid in her bed waiting for her to finish the chapter she was on. When she shut the book, she saw the Beastboy had fallen asleep. She tucked him in and took the stir fry to the kitchen to eat where she wouldn't disturb Beastboy.
The next morning, Raven gathered Bumblebee and Cyborg in her room to perform the spell. She had enough information to anticipate what could happen and to battle the possible side effects. She set up the room similarly to how she set it up before and had Bee sit on her bed with a candle in hand. Similarly to the previous time, a wind blew the candle out and left the three in the dark. Once Raven turned on the lights and saw Cyborg as a normal human, everyone eased up a little.
"I can't tell you how long this will last, so stay in the tower just to be safe." Raven said as she helped Cyborg to his feet. He stood in a baggy pair of grey sweatpants with no shirt on. He was a little sweaty but nothing to unusual for a human body.
The two left Raven's room, in a mixture of nerves and excitement.
Beastboy woke up feeling a little under the weather. He had a small ache and some sinus congestion to go with. He showered hoping the steam would relieve some pressure in his head but to no avail. He climbed back into bed and slept until training that day.
Training was only Beastboy, Robin, Raven, Nightwing and Starfire in attendance today. Nightwing had arranged a multi-terrain obstacle course that consisted of cement drones, flying drones, and swimming drones, each in their respective landscapes.
"Hey where'd you go last night? I thought you wanted to play the new game?" Robin asked.
"Yeah, Sorry dude! I fell asleep." Beastboy mumbled in a stuffed up, groggy tone which caught Raven's attention.
"Are you feeling okay? You sound terrible." Raven asked concerned.
"I'm fine! Just a little head cold." Beastboy mumbled as Nightwing drew him to go first.
Beastboy got on the first battlefield and changed into a gorilla. He started fighting the cement drones, but mid fight he sneezed and transformed into a bunny. He dashed away and quickly changed back into a T-Rex and smashed the rest. He, then transformed into a pterodactyl and began chomping at the flying drones. His flying was super erratic around the drones causing Nightwing to get concerned.
"Come on Beastboy! You gotta get through this!" Nightwing shouted as Beastboy bit through the last flying drone. He then dove into the water and transformed into a shark. He whipped his tail and shredded the drones with his teeth until one landed a blow on his head, instantly changing him back to human. Without thinking, he gasped at the pain and let go of all of the air in his lungs and began to choke. He transformed back to a squid, grabbed the last drone, and squashed it. He swamp up to the edge of the water as a human and choked the rest of the water out of his lungs. The group ran up to him as Robin helped him up.
"Are you okay?" Nightwing asked in surprise. This training session was supposed to be easy.
"Yeah, I'm just a little sick..." Beastboy coughed suddenly feeling the cold water creeping into his clothes. He was shivering past the point of being able to stop.
"Maybe he should go rest?" Starfire suggested and took him upstairs and the rest of the group completed training. Once Starfire left, he took some grey sweats and a towel to the bathroom and showered. The hot shower water felt amazing after being in the cold water. After what felt like a very long time, he got dressed and went back to bed. He was exhausted but also unable to sleep. He heard a knock on the door.
"Come in." He tried to shout but his throat was too sore to come out clearly. He coughed as Raven walked in with some soup. He tried to sit up but his head was pounding. Raven felt his burning forehead and went to go get Cyborg.
