After sobbing until the numbness set in, Cyborg locked the hospital room door and coached Bee through the worst moments of her life. She delivered the small baby and had their last moments together. They decided on the name Bethany, and placed her in a tiny wooden box, filled with a small pink blanket they had ready for her arrival. Cyborg wrapped Bee in a fresh blanket and carried her off to the shower where he helped her get ready for bed. He gave her a small dose of pain killers to help her body recover from the contractions and trauma of the day and went back to clean the hospital room. Cyborg processed grief differently from the rest of the team. He didn't seek company or take things out on himself, he just busied himself to distract from his pain. His survival was currently feeding off of his procrastination to feel what needed to be felt.
Raven looked down at the first page of the book to see a realistic drawing of her face as a portrait in ball point ink pen. She flipped the page to see another sketch of her fighting in battle and the next page to see her reading. She slowly flipped through every drawing and read the little notes accompanying them. The book was documenting how he saw her. The drawings were beautiful. This book must've taken Besstboy so much time.
"I didn't know you could draw?" Raven reacted as she flipped the page.
"No one really knows...I'm dyslexic so my reading ain't the best, but I love art!" Beastboy blushed. Everything made sense now, why he was always a little self conscious when she would ask him about books and reading.
"I love this..." Raven's voice trailed off as she got lost in the pages.
"Thanks!" Beastboy began sheepishly, "this is just my way of saying I want to spend more time with you...?" Beastboy stayed hesitantly, with a little fear for her reaction.
"Sure...whenever you want..." she whispered with her hazy voice showing more warmth than it ever had.
Nightwing floated in to her bedroom window with Starfire. The two were on cloud nine from the evening and Starfire wanted to relish the moment. Nightwing has the picnic basket and blanket in his arms as she placed him on the floor. He gave her a quick peck on the cheek before running off to throw everything in his room and change into pajamas. He heard the shower running as he ran by, wondering who would be showering at 2am but thought nothing of it. He set everything down on the edge of his desk and changed into a plain white T-shirt and boxers. Without looking, he ran into the hallway just in time to witness a freshly showered Cyborg, slam his fist through the drywall outside the bathroom. He opened his mouth to yell but then saw the agony painted across Cyborg's face.
"Cyborg?" Nightwing asked softly as he placed a hand on his shoulder. He immediately erupted into tears and sank to the floor.
"We lost her!" He started to sob as Nightwing sank down next to him. Starfire, Robin, Raven, and Beastboy heard the sounds and ran out of their rooms to investigate just in time to hear Cyborg explode "IT WAS SLADE! HE TOOK OUR BABY!" but Nightwing shoo-d them off to their rooms immediately. Nightwing walked Cyborg into his room where he saw Bee in bed, facing away from the door. He helped Cyborg into bed and stayed to console for a little while.
Raven sat on her bed quietly with Beastboy taking in what they just heard. The heaviness from the new situation had left their mood a little sour.
"Can the spell work twice?" Beastboy asked gently.
"Sometimes yes, sometimes no.... I've seen it happen, but the more you play with magic, the more side effects you're left with. Getting Cyborg fully human was already stretching the potential of this spell. I can't imagine doing it again would work." Raven explained with her standard monotonous voice but this time her monotony sounded sad.
Raven leaned back into bed and Beastboy snuggled into her chest as a human for the first time since he was poisoned. He hid a small bit of anger since he knew how terrible the poison felt. He couldn't believe Slade managed to get another Titan without them realizing. The two laid in bed, lost in their own thoughts.
Starfire lie awake on her bed. Originally, Nightwing was coming to her room to sleep but she knew he needed to take care of Cyborg and Bumblebee. She thought about the future and how wrapped up Nightwing as Robin got in Slade previously. Tonight's events could definitely set Nightwing off on another obsession which terrified her. She glanced down at her ring and slowly found faith in Nightwing before falling asleep.
She felt the cold table beneath her as a man tied her down. He stuck her with a needle that begged her body for drowsiness. Through the haze she could hear her friends coming to her rescue. She heard Nightwing as Robin get hit by Cinderblock. She heard the bone crushing impact as her stomach lurched. Then everything went black.
She woke up in the middle of the woods, following Nightwing as Robin. Robin was searching desperately for a Slade she could not see. She remembered the anger in his eyes as he slammed past her and yelled at her for not stopping him. She tripped on a tree root trying to follow Robin and everything went black.
Lastly she woke up post-bomb-blast, digging Robin out of the burning rubble. She dug til her hands bled and fingers burned. Uncovering his face, she clutched him desperately as she pulling him close to her chest. She flew off frantically towards the tower. However, this time, when she flew over the ocean, her powers gave out and they plummeted towards the waves.
Before impact, she snapped awake to someone nudging her shoulder. Nightwing sat on the edge of her bed, concerned about her nightmares. He snuggled in next to her and held her tight for he rest of the night.
