I'm Fine (book 2)

Wet Birds

Bumblebee woke up feeling groggy and disoriented. She tried to move but found her hands and feet bound in the dark room. She tried to scream but her face was taped. She took a deep breath from her nose, realizing that both her and her son's survival relied on her remaining calm. She was just shy of eight months pregnant so everything she did now was do or die. She closed her eyes, hoping that Cyborg would find her.

The rest of the team came back to the tower with Cyborg in panic mode. They displayed this picture on the screen which sent Cyborg into a destructive rage until he broke down into tears.  Starfire hugged Cyborg while Nightwing and Raven went to work searching the tower. After calming down, Cyborg watched the surveillance footage from the tower security. Beastboy and Starfire were about to go search the city for Bee and Damien when Damien walking into the tower.

"WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN!?" Nightwing yelled so loud, his face turned red behind his mask.

"I was out!" Damien yelled defiantly but his demeanor softened immediately when he saw the wear on the Titans and the shattered window. "Wait, what happened?" Starfire swooped in for a hug.

"Dude, we thought Slade took you with Bee." Beastboy confessed as Robin put up the picture on the screen.

"Shit!" Damien exclaimed as Nightwing softened his anger slightly.

"We will discuss you going out during lockdown and missing a battle later. You go help Starfire, Raven, and Beastboy search." Nightwing directed as he glared into the screen.

"Beastboy, Raven, Starfire, and Damien took off in separate directions to search. Beastboy flew off as a bird to check the cliffs along the coastline for caves. Raven phased through abandoned buildings to check for lairs. Starfire flew through the sky to watch below. Robin checked are street level, looking though alleys and side streets.

Beastboy flew through the sky as he soared over the beach. He could see the first rocky cliff in the distance so he picked up speed. Approaching the cliff, he slowed down and landed on the ledge of the first cave. He felt a little uneasy on his feet but some of that could've been from staring at the waves below. He walked in the cave to make sure there was nothing hidden back into the depths but saw nothing. He jumped from the ledge transforming into a bird again.

Starfire flew over the rooftops looking at buildings, foot traffic, and vehicles. She wasn't sure what she was looking for but she kept her eyes open to anything that could possibly be suspicious.

Robin walked through the streets quickly and quickly turned to exploring the sewers since he knew them rather well. As Damien, Robin had been entering into an underground fight club to earn some additional cash without Nightwing knowing. He would dress in all black and called himself Shadow when he entered into fights. It was a fun alter ego he created based off of things he did in Gotham City.

Raven phases through abandoned buildings and mid-construction high rises that would be perfect hideouts. The more walls she phased through, the more she noticed a lingering headache starting to form at the back of her head. After a few buildings she came out to the street to sit and take a break when she realized what was happening.

Nightwing was watching city surveillance when he happened across a traffic light camera that had Raven sitting in the background, clutching her head. He watched to see what she was doing but quickly realized that something was off.

"Raven, I see you in the traffic camera to your right. What's going on?" Nightwing asked in the communicator. She looked up, finding the camera without getting to her feet. She was starting to feel a little dizzy.

"I think we have a problem." She gasped into the communicator. "Starfire, how far away are you?" Raven asked.

"Two blocks. Do you need of assistance?" Starfire replied, unaware of the situation.

"Yeah." Raven answered flatly. Taking a deep breath, she continued to speak, "Beastboy, you got hit by Plasmus, Are you okay?" She called out but only silence answered her.

Beastboy heard his pager go off but he was getting a serious case of tunnel vision as he flew. He saw the cliff ahead and raced to reach it but his lungs were burning and his wings were losing strength. He was only about a foot shy of the cliff as his body randomly transformed into his human form and he plummeted to the water below. He heard the words "Are you okay?" right before his skin made contact with the water.

Starfire found Raven sitting on the sidewalk and flew down to help her. She looked more pale than normal she was holding her head in her hands.

"Are you the okay?" Starfire whispered as she helped Raven up.

"I just remembered we never washed Plasmus off of us... I think there's something in it..." her voice trailed off as Starfire had Raven grab on to her back and hold on tight. "We need to find Beastboy!" Raven whispered deliriously as Starfire flew her to the tower.

Raven was in and out of conciousness as Starfire helped her shower before Nightwing and Cyborg got her set up in the hospital wing. Cyborg immediately ran her blood for the same poison that plagued Beastboy and Bumblebee but her blood came back clean. Stumped, he started analyzing her blood as Starfire and Nightwing went back out to find Beastboy based off of his last communicator ping.

They found the cliff where Beastboy's communicator pinged but found nothing obvious on the ground or inside the cave. Nightwing looked over the edge and got a sinking feeling in his stomach. "Star, start a timer and pull me up if I don't come up for air in five minutes." He shouted before spontaneously jumping off the cliff.

He broke through the surface of the water, forcing himself to open his eyes. He saw a blurry spect of green in his vision, both hoping it was and wasn't him, Nightwing dove down deeper. He could feel the pressure pushing in his eardrums. As he swam deeper he got closer and saw Beastboy laying in the algae, barely moving. Nightwing's body was begging for air but he ignored it. He saw Beastboy's eyes try to focus on his face as the last bit of air left his green friend's lungs and sucked in the salty water. 'Why isn't he transforming?' He thought you himself as he grabbed he put himself under Beastboy's arms, quickly tying his wrists together so Nightwing could swim up quickly with his hands free. He started to see the water around him lighten up but he couldn't hold his breath much longer. Water started to sneak in as he kept swimming.

He got to the surface right after Beastboy lost consciousness and Starfire grabbed him and laid him on the cliff side. She pulled Nightwing out of the water next and he fell to the ground, coughing out the water that filled his lungs. Nightwing rolled over onto his hands and feet, gagging the water out of his lungs as he watched Starfire roll Beastboy over and struck his back softly, with no luck. Nightwing scrambled to his hands and feet and started chest compressions and alternated with mouth to mouth. Eventually, Beastboy got his pulse back and started to cough. Nightwing sat back right before falling back to the ground with exhaustion as Starfire took over caring for Beastboy.

Eventually, Beastboy was vaguely aware of what was going on but was only able to moan and shake his head to answer questions. Starfire flew him back to the tower first as Nightwing sat alone on the cliff. He looked out at the sea, watching the waves as his uniform dripped onto the dirt below.

"Robin, how's the search on your end?" Nightwing called on the communicator.

"Talked to some people underground but no one really knows much down here." Robin confessed.

"Okay, come back to the tower. We need to regroup." Nightwing spoke into the communicator, suddenly feeling the weight of the world on his shoulders. He rolled back to his hands and knees to cough again. He knelt catching his breath as Starfire flew down.

"You're the best..." Nightwing mumbled as he climbed onto Starfire's back. He usually would just have her hold him by the arms but he was way too tired to risk ending up in the water again.
