"Isha," mom's voice echoed.
I dashed downstairs, walked straight to the kitchen.
"Are you sure you'll be okay being alone at home this weekend?" mom asked, concerned. "Yes, mom. Hundred percent sure. Just go and don't worry about me okay?", I insisted while nodding.
Both mom and dad were off from duty this weekend so they have planned a short weekend vacation for all three of us to overseas. Short escape they said. I refused to join them.
Why? Because since papa came back from his volunteer work, I barely seen them having time together and I think this is the most suitable time for them to have their time alone. Or easily said, their second honeymoon. Furthermore, I have things to do with the upcoming festival organized by the Music and Art Club.
I sat down and busied myself with cereal, sliced pear and milk. Few minutes later, papa joined us at the dining table after finished doing the final check of the car that I will use to drive them to the airport.
As we ate and talked about life, I looked around the kitchen and dining room sensing something was wrong. I counted the cup on the table. One, two, three and.. four.
"Mom, is Aunt Miani here?" I asked, eyes searching for Aunt Miani.
Mom frowned shaking her head.
"But," I pointed at the fourth cup but someone took me completely by suprise when he suddenly appeared in my sight.
Gulp...
"Mrs. Alan, Mr. Alan, I'm sorry if I used the restroom too long," Adrian said apologizing.
Yes, it was Adrian. He is here!
"No, no. It's okay. Use whatever you need in this house," with a friendly tone, papa said to Adrian.
I still could hardly believe my eyes and ears when mom reached across the table and patted my hand. "We have a guest today. I forgot to tell you that," mom said playfully.
I whirled my head to face mom.
"Do you know him?" I asked.
"Your friend," mom simply answered.
"A special friend, I guess," papa added.
Adrian chuckled, his face flushed.
"Yes, he willingly came here and said he wanted to accompany you today. A sweet gentleman," mom nudged papa slowly and they both giggled.
"Mom..." I whispered, pouting and blushing.
After breakfast ended, Adrian offered his help to ride them to airport. I agreed but also insisted on following them to the airport with Adrian.
We both watched mom and papa entered the departure hall and waved them goodbye. Seeing them going without me hurts me a bit making me regretting the decision I've made.
I shook my head, trying to sweep away the regret I have and tried to think positively.
Adrian patted my shoulder and whirled me. He frowned when he saw my eyes was shimmered with tears.
He gazed into my eyes, gently stroking my cheek. "Your eyes, they are so beautiful, momdad's babygirl," he said softly.
I punched his chest playfully and expected him to flinch but he grabbed my waist and pulled me closer to him instead. His arms tight and reassuring. "No worries okay? They will be back home very soon, safe and sound," he tried to comfort me. And he did comforted me. His voice and hug reassured me.
