Electing The Alpha

Chapter 27:

Alec and I left the park when it was sunset and we are already at my house.

"Goodbye Nikki! See you tomorrow" Alec says as I get down. I wave him back and watch him leave. He has been there for me since yesterday and he's nice.

I walk slowly towards the front door. With every step I took, a pit of fire formed in my stomach. I finally came upon the dreaded front door. I was contemplating whether to grab the handle or just go somewhere else but the door itself opened as if automatic and my mom's angry face showed up. I got angry and sad at the same time seeing her.

"Oh look! The harlot showed up! I hope you enjoyed yourself" she says in a sassy voice. She was so insensitive! I remained quiet.

"I hope you came back with everything intact my dear Nicole" she says with her voice dripping with sarcasm. I knew what she was talking about. I remain quiet and just look at her.

"Did you come back intact? Or you are missing something?" She asks with rage laced in her tone. Where in the world was dad? I was expecting him to be here! Holding her back and calming her!

"Look mom! Its not what you think"

"Its not what I think? " she asks clearly annoyed.

"I had an asthma attack" I say taking in deep breaths.

"Oh really? You think I would believe that stupid lie? The last time I recall, we got you a brand new inhaler! And your sister told us you always take it with you" Mom spits venomously.

"I know but it just came and a friend took me to his house. His mom looked after me and I just woke up" I reply disappointed.

"Sure sure sure! Continue the lies and the stories! But mind you! You wouldn't get away with this dear daughter!" Mom scowls before leaving into the house.

I sigh and enter. Trina was in the hall. She looks up at me.
I cannot decipher her expression but she gets up and walks up to me.

"Where did you go Nicole? We were all worried sick about you" she says and I sniff.

"I had an asthma attack Trina" I reply and she gasps.

"A friend took me to his house and his mother revived me" I deadpan.

"Am sorry Nicole! But I know mom doesn't believe you" Trina says and I nod.

"Who got you home?" I ask concerned

"Jake! He was really worried and went back to the clubhouse to look for you" Trina answers. Am glad nothing bad happened to her.

"I'll call him" I assure and go to my bedroom with a heavy heart.

I called Jake.
"Nikki! Where are you?" Jake says into the phone.
"Am at home! I'm okay don't worry"
"Where did you go?" He asks concerned.
I didn't want to tell him what happened.
"I gotta go! Trina needs my help" I lied and hanged up.

I texted all my friends that I was alright and I drifted off to sleep.

I wake up to my alarm clock ringing not feeling the least bit okay! My heart is still heavy from yesterday and I wasn't planning to go to school today in the shittiest mood! I wanted today to be special! A grand entry day! Not a sulking day!

I get into the bathroom and take a quick shower. I missed Alec's bathroom. The way it was huge and beautiful! After that, I got into a red kimono sleeved blouse, a pair of black jeans and a black and white double decker.

I fixed my hair up and curled it. Then I let it flow freely down my back. I grabbed my satchel and phone, then left to the dining hall.

I sat down beside Trina. Dad was no where to be found. Strange! He wasn't here yesterday too.
