Pandora

Pandora had just finishing studying for an upcoming test when she decided to check her phone. She had put it on silent as not to interfere with her concentration. Usually she never did that, she just placed the screen facing down, but tonight she really needed to focus. It's late, so no one's probably left a message. Pandora assumed.

To her surprise, she had what looked like multiple missed calls from both Riley and Nat. "Huh? What?" she asked in confusion. What were these two people doing until they could contact her at the same time. "What happened?" she spluttered.

Nat: 3 MISSED CALLS

Nat: Pandora

Nat: are you there?

Nat: I need to talk

Pandora still didn't get the hint of what was happening. "Just, what now?" she'd only been gone for an hour and a half or so but then all these things started happening.

Riley: 5 MISSED CALLS

Riley: Pandora

Riley: hey

Riley: hey

Riley: yo

Riley: Nat's in the hospital

Pandora blinked a few times, I'm sorry, what?" she said in disbelief. If this message shook her, then she wasn't prepared for the next one

Riley: she almost died

Riley: why aren't you answering???

Riley: come here quick

Riley shared an address

Riley: come here quick

The words hit her like a ton of bricks. Nat, her friend, in critical condition? What? This couldn't be a prank, right? She rubbed her temples in frustration, what should she do? Ma Josephine was asleep on the couch the last time she checked, surely if she were to obey Riley's orders and go out at night, it'll be okay, no? If she left a message saying where she was going.

Hastily, she texted Riley back.

You: tell me u r joking

You: what happened?

Riley: no

Riley: hurry

Pandora knew Riley wasn't the person who'd go into details with someone, if she wanted an explanation about what was occurring right now then she should hurry just like what Riley said Well, that escalated quickly. Pandora pinched herself as an experiment, no, she wasn't dreaming. This was real.

She hadn't got over her shock yet when Ma Josephine opened her door. "Penny?" she looked like she just woke up, "You're still up?" Pandora diverted her gaze from her phone to her mom. How was she going to tell her? "No, I uh..." Pandora felt panicked, time is of the essence, she needed to rush, but she had to tell Josephine first.

"You look like you've just seen a ghost." Ma Josephine observed.

"Ma, I need to go somewhere, it's urgent." Pandora blurted out as she tidied her books, putting them back in the shelves.

Josephine looked bewildered, "Like, right now?"

"Yes, right now." her daughter huffed. Pandora never meant to sound irritated, but she was worried of her friend. "Can I?"

"What's wrong? What happened?" her mom looked genuinely concerned. Just a while ago Pandora had excused herself to retreat to her room to study, now why was she acting panicky suddenly?
