It was Saturday, your day off. You had planned to spend the entire day in your pajamas, not really doing anything. You debated doing to the school work you had already fallen behind on, but eventually decided against it. Kakyoin could always give you answers later anyways. Your plans came to a screeching halt however, when you awoke to a text from the very person you were going to steal answers from.
It was a simple, 'let's hang out today :D' but those four words were enough to make your heart race. You couldn't help but smile at the text, replying quickly that you could hang out any time once you had completed your chores. Kakyoin agreed to the conditions, telling you to just come over to his house whenever you were ready and you guys would pick a place to go. You sent back a message of confirmation, tossing your phone onto your bed and jumping up.
Knowing you now had plans with Kakyoin gave you a burst of energy. You bounded down the stairs, rounding a corner and poking your head into the living room where your mother was sitting, watching TV.
"Hey mom!"
"Good morning sweetheart," your mother's voice was soft and warm. It always made you feel at ease.
"Kakyoin asked if I could hang out later today. Don't worry, I already told him I'd have to do my chores before anything."
"That's fine, just text me what your plans are and if you'll be home for dinner or not. And make sure to be back by curfew if you plan on staying out late."
"Gotcha!" you gave your mother a thumbs up, disappearing behind the wall to do your weekly chores. You cleaned the dishes from last night's dinner, setting them on the drying rack and moving to your next task: laundry. You had done most of it yesterday, only leaving one load for today. You packed your dirty clothes into the washing machine, filling the little compartment at the top with fabric cleaner and softener and starting it up. You watched your clothes spin for a few seconds before skipping away, getting started on your other chores.
Your clothes were done by the time you were finished with the minuscule things like sweeping, vacuuming, and cleaning your room. You moved them over to the dryer, throwing in a thin dryer sheet and starting the cycle. You shot Kakyoin another text, informing him you were just about finished with your chores and would be at his house in an hour or so, leaving once your laundry was complete. He sent back a picture of him with a thumbs up, and you clutched your phone tightly to your chest as you tried to hold back a squeal of joy.
You were never really interested in boys, or people in general for the matter, but Kakyoin had always been different. Even when you were a child you had very few friends, though that was mostly due to your brash rudeness. However, the small red haired boy never seemed offended by your harsh words, instead completely ignoring them and always striking up a conversation with you. You remembered always threatening to fight him whenever he tried to play house with you, but he never seemed fazed by it. Eventually you had no choice but to give into his actions, and over the years he had become someone you felt you could truly depend on. He would scold you every once in awhile, saying you should probably try to be friends with more people than just him, but his words never got through to you.
You looked at the picture of your friend one more time before returning to your room. You checked the weather as you stood in front of your closet; it was going to be another warm day, the summer climate uncertain of whether it wanted to remain or give way to he chilly fall air. You decided on a plain, but cute outfit: a simple white tee, the neck of which was so stretched out at the point that it rested loosely against your shoulders, revealing the frilly lace of the white bralette you chose to wear underneath it. You wore somewhat baggy shorts, the ones that had a thin belt going around them that you could tie into a bow and cinch at the waist. They sported pale yellow stripes running vertically along them; they used to be much more vibrant but the frequent exposure to sunlight had washed the color out.
