Zavion POV
It's been half an hour since Zoe left, and I already feel her absence weighing on me, so I decided to step into her room one last time before finally shutting the door for good. As I walked over to her bed, I caught a whiff of her familiar scent lingering in the air, a reminder of her presence that made my heart ache. Ethan hasn't said a word to me since last night's chaos, and I felt frustrated. I picked up her pillow, inhaling deeply, when I noticed a locket tucked away beneath it. It looked eerily similar to mine, and as I tried to open it, I noticed an inscription that read, "Z loves Zee." My mind raced—could it be that Zoe was Zee all along? She had been living in this house for a month, and I was completely oblivious!
The pieces started to fall into place: the chocolates, the humming, but if she was Zee, why didn't she remember me? I rushed to my room, using my key to unlock a box where I kept our childhood photo. It was the same picture of us from that day at the market when we decided to hide from Mom and ended up asking a stranger to capture our moment. Suddenly, everything clicked—Zoe was Zee. I called out to Izzy, showing her the locket, and she confirmed it was indeed Zoe's childhood picture. Who would have thought that both Ian and I had feelings for the same girl all this time? I immediately grabbed my phone to call her, but she didn't answer, and I had no idea where she was staying.
Frustrated, I grabbed my car keys and asked Izzy to come with me to Zoe's house, but just as we were about to leave, Dad's car pulled up. Seriously, why now?
Izzy mentioned she was planning to ask Zoe's best friend for her home address, but just then, Dad shouldn't have come now, and I couldn't just ignore him. I greeted him as he entered the living room, and he seemed really pleased to see Ian.
"Where's your mother?" he asked while giving Ethan a hug, who is definitely his favorite.
"She's in her room, sir," I replied, handing him a glass of water.
He chuckled and said, "Call in all the maids; I knew you guys could manage without one."
I nodded, "Yeah, we did." After that, he headed upstairs to his room, leaving a quiet atmosphere behind. I glanced at Ethan, who was looking back at me, then he returned to whatever he was doing. I was thrilled to have found Zee, but I couldn't share that with Ian; he'd just turn it into a competition again. As I made my way up the stairs, I caught sight of Izzy. She knocked on my door, and I invited her in. I asked her to try calling Zoe, but for some reason, it wasn't going through, which was strange since she usually answers right away.
"How about we try Eva's number?" Izzy suggested.
"You have that?" I asked, surprised.
"Of course, I'll call her now." She dialed, and Eva answered, letting us know she was out of the country in Spain for work but had sent us Zoe's home address. Just as Izzy and I were about to head out, Dad stopped us, and I couldn't help but groan at his interruption.
"Don't be a useless son and make her look like you," he joked.
"Dad, Zavion is my role model," Izzy shot back as she plopped down on the couch.
"Role model? Seriously, when I suggested you pursue medicine, what made you choose engineering instead? Do you even realize what they do in that field? Please, darling, don't turn out like your brother; he's a total waste of space!"
"Dad, Zavion is not a waste; he motivates so many people and is truly admired."
"Get to your room, now!" he shouted. I glanced at him and shook my head in disbelief. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"Nothing, I'm just going to head upstairs too." I made my way up and plopped down on my bed. If only I could reach Zee; I really wanted to embrace her, not as Zoe but as Zee. I had so much to share and longed for an adventure like we used to have.
