Zavion POV

Zoe stood before my mother once more, but this time she was introduced as the girl I had fallen in love with years ago, a revelation that took everyone by surprise. The day I shared that Zoe was actually Zee, the reactions were priceless, especially when Ian rushed to embrace her, his gaze reflecting the same affection he had for Zoe all those years ago. Over the past three months, my relationship with Ian had blossomed, and I was finally ready to welcome him into our circle, appreciating the comfort his presence brought. However, things seemed different between Izzy and Zoe; they no longer shared the same easy camaraderie. It was puzzling to see Zoe pulling away, as if she no longer felt at home, struggling even to locate the fridge in our house, which hinted that something was amiss with her return.

"Zavion," Izzy whispered, drawing my attention. I wasn't sure why we were keeping our voices low, but I decided to play along. "Something feels off here," she confided, prompting me to turn and face her with curiosity.

Just then, Dad interjected, breaking the moment. "What are you two whispering about?" he asked, and the atmosphere at the table shifted back to its familiar rhythm, with Ethan finally smiling again, rekindling his playful rivalry with Izzy.

"Nothing, but Dad, I have something to say: I'm moving out tomorrow," I announced, and the words hung in the air, shocking everyone at the table.

"Why, honey?" Mom asked, her surprise evident. "You just introduced us to Zoe, and now you want to leave?"

I reminded her gently, "Mom, we discussed this. Dad said I could leave after my birthday, and now that day has finally come."

"I also said when you bring a bride home."

"And I did; she's right here beside me," I said, gesturing towards Zoe, who looked at me with wide eyes.

"What?" she exclaimed, clearly surprised.

My dad echoed her confusion, asking, "Yes, what?"

I took a deep breath and declared, "I want to marry her," but my dad shook his head in disbelief.

"You hardly know her anymore; she's changed, Zavion. It's time for you to grow up too."

I squeezed Zoe's hands, looking into her eyes, and replied, "I know Zoe, and I love her, Dad."

After a moment, he sighed and said, "Alright, if that's what you want, go ahead and marry her. You're free to make your own choices; I've done my best to guide you."

Just then, my mom stood up and headed for the stairs, but suddenly we heard a loud thud. Our attention snapped to the stairs, where we found her collapsed on the floor. We rushed to her side. "Katrina," Dad called out, but she remained unresponsive, her temperature rising alarmingly. Just last week, she had finally shown signs of improvement, and the doctor had called it a miracle, saying her body was starting to accept the treatment.

Dad quickly lifted her and rushed her to the car, driving frantically to the hospital. It was the first time I had ever seen him so panicked; he called the doctor right away, and once we arrived, Mom was taken to a private room. The doctor conducted tests and explained to Dad what had caused her fall, and I realized that the hospital we were at was different from the one I had previously taken her to.

The doctor took dad aside for a private conversation, leaving me to step into the room where mom was put into. Mom opened her eyes. A wave of emotion surged through me, and I felt the urge to cry, but she gently held me and shook her head, a soft chuckle escaping her lips. "I suppose the secret I've been trying to keep from everyone has finally come to light," she said, her laughter a testament to her resilience despite her condition. I felt a pang of guilt for having kept such a significant secret from everyone. Just then, my dad entered the room and took his place beside her, prompting me to step outside and give them some space to talk.
