Zoella POV

Zavion transferred the money to me the very next morning after our chat two days prior, and I was still in disbelief that I had three days left before departing from the Gutierrez mansion. My fondness for that place wasn't solely due to its luxurious comforts; it stirred something deep within me, a sense of familiarity that I couldn't quite grasp, as if I had experienced it all before. A broad smile spread across my face as I inhaled deeply, sensing that today was going to be a great day. Upon arriving at the hospital, I took care of Chloe's bills in full, leaving me once again financially strained, but the joy of keeping my promise to her filled me with happiness, especially now that she was recovering well.

When I got home, I knocked on the door, but there was no response; perhaps Chloe was napping, and since she still didn't have a phone, I decided to use my spare key to let myself in. The room was shrouded in darkness, which was unusual for Chloe, as she preferred light. A wave of concern washed over me as I flicked on the light switch, only to find the room empty. Panic set in momentarily, and I feared the worst—had she been taken? Just then, I heard her laughter, and relief flooded over me, but it quickly turned to dread when I recognized a man's laugh accompanying hers. It dawned on me that Izzy had been right; Chloe was the girl she spotted at the mall, and that laugh belonged to Alex. It became clear that Chloe had been seeing Alex behind my back, and as they entered the room, I instinctively crouched under the bed, listening as she slurred, "I was sure I locked the door earlier."

To which Alex casually replied, "Maybe Zoe came home."

She leaned in and kissed him, and while they were lost in their moment, I remained hidden, unseen by them. "No, Zoe is at the Gutierrez mansion; she won't be back for three days."

He said with a smirk. "Your sister thought you had forgotten everything, my love; you played it well," he laughed softly.

"Of course, I learned from the best, babe. She's such a fool, and I appreciate you telling me about her trying to come on to you. I can't believe she would do that, knowing you're my boyfriend."

The truth was, Alex was weaving a web of lies; we had only dated briefly, and while he had wanted to take things further, I wasn't ready, and he was fully aware of that. Yet here he was, spinning tales to make my sister despise me even more. "Don't worry about her, sweetheart," he said, pressing kisses along her neck, and I felt a wave of disgust wash over me.

"I can't believe my sister would betray me like this; who does that?" she exclaimed, kissing him on the lips, oblivious to his manipulations. He was clearly trying to turn her against me, and if Chloe ended up siding with him, I wouldn't be able to report him to the authorities. I cursed under my breath, realizing I should have anticipated this betrayal. I needed to escape the suffocating atmosphere, so I grabbed my phone and texted Chloe, letting her know I'd be home in thirty minutes. I knew she would follow Alex to his truck for a goodbye kiss, pretending to forget everything, so I quietly slipped out through the back door and into the yard. Alex was up to no good, and I couldn't help but chuckle bitterly as I made my exit, ensuring he wouldn't see me leave.

At the mansion, I spotted Izzy and quickly led her to my room. "You were right, Iz," I said, burying my face in my hands.

"What happened?" she asked, settling onto the bed.

"Chloe remembers everything; she was just pretending all along."

"You spied on her?" she inquired.

"It wasn't on purpose, but I had to. I got home to tell her I had paid all her bills, but she wasn't there. At first, I thought something terrible had happened, but then I heard her come in through the front door."
