Chapter 5

"Keefe, I don't think it would be wise to test your new ability until we open the cache." Mr. Forkle said.

After Sophie had woken up, Mr. Forkle had been waiting for her in one of the pastures. There, he told her the plan for the day. Going to one of the Black Swan's hideouts to test out Keefe's ability.

The hideout had beautiful scenery, with crystal and leaves weaved together to make a spacious resort. Outside of the house was a beach, filled with shimmering sand, and glowing waters.

Though when Mr. Forkle greeted them at the entrance, he suggested something else.

"The cache may contain information about stellarlune, that very well might relate to Mr. Sencen's ability. We need as much knowledge as we can get. Councilor Oralie has to bring her cache with her, and yes" Mr. Forkle said, looking at Sophie, "I do feel comfortable letting her know the location of this hideout. For now. She has proven herself worthy to us."

You. Sophie mentally edited in her head. You.

"And so, I've already informed her to come to this location." Mr. Forkle added.

There was a beat of silence.

"So... When's she gonna get here?" Keefe asked.

"Soon." Mr. Forkle promised.

"So what, when we open the cache, it'll just magically create memories into our head?" Keefe quipped.

"No, it's only available for Miss. Foster, and Councilor Oralie." Mr. Forkle responded.

"Ok, is Foster gonna transmit it to us after?" Keefe asked, grinning.

'"I suppose." Mr. Forkle answered, taking a quick look at Sophie's expression. She shrugged.

"I brought the cache."

Sophie swivelled back and saw Councilor Oralie standing behind them. Her circlet was noticeably missing.

Oralie's eyes darted to Keefe and her eyes softened.

"It's good to see you awake, Keefe," she whispered.

"Yeah, well," Keefe answered, ruffling up his hair, "everybody couldn't live without me so..." He held up his hands. "What could I do?"

Oralie smiled. "Yes, I suppose." Keefe grinned.

Then Oralie's attention shifted to Mr. Forkle.

"Do you want to open the cache now?" she asked.

"We were planning to," Mr. Forkle answered. "Unless you have any objections."

Oralie shook her head. "No. Mr. Dizznee bypassed the security. We should be fine. Unless..." Sophie looked down.

The Forgotten Secret broke their minds

Oralie cleared her throat,

"Shall we get started?" She asked.

Everybody nodded hesitantly. The only one who looked excited was Keefe, and even he had a hint of worry on his face.

Maybe because the information in the cache would help his ability grow, and it would fall into place with Lady Gisela's plan.

Sophie wordlessly walked to the councillor, and Oralie nodded, granting her permission to enter her mind.

After endless beats of silence, Oralie finally pulled a cache out of her pocket, and whispered, "Moonlark."

Memories began to fill Sophie's mind, as she drifted away into obliviousness again. Darkness powered her mind, and she sunk into the dark clouds that awaited her at the bottom. Suddenly, the shadows around Sophie shaped into figures, and -

"-la - Playing with Shadowflux and quintessence can only end disastrously!" Kenric shouted. They were outside a circular, clear dome, and Sophie could see the councillors screaming and yelling at whoever was in the dome. "LADY GISELA!" somebody finally yelled. Sophie's heart stopped.

"WELL, I CAREFULLY PLANNED IT OUT! YOU THINK THAT THIS WILL BE A FAILED EXPERIMENT," the voice seethed. "BUT IT WON'T. IT WILL CHANGE THIS WORLD! AND IT IS YOUR FAULT FOR NOT STOPPING ME! TOO LATE NOW. AND LIKE USUAL, YOU ARE GOING TO SIT IN YOUR PRETTY LITTLE CASTLES THINKING THAT EVERYTHING IS FINE BECAUSE YOU WILL ERASE YOUR MEMORIES! THE GUILT WILL BREAK YOU SOON ENOUGH, KNOWING THAT YOU HAD A CHANCE TO PREVENT AN INNOCENT CHILD FROM FACING HIS LEGACY. A LEGACY YOU MOST LIKELY WOULD NOT WANT FOR YOURSELF, EVEN THOUGH IT'S BEAUTIFUL. MERGING SHADOWFLUX AND QUINTESSENCE WILL END GLORIOUSLY! ONE WHO IS BORN WITH IT WILL HAVE THE POWER TO CONTROL GOOD AND EVIL! QUINTESSENCE REPRESENTS THE GOOD IN PEOPLE. PEACE. AND SHADOW VAPOR REPRESENTS THE POTENTIAL FOR DARKNESS. THE ELF CAN RAISE THE SHADOW VAPOR INTO SHADOWFLUX. BEAUTIFUL ISN'T IT? THIS WILL TEACH THE WORD RIGHT FROM WRONG!
