Keefe.
Keefe.
Sophie's heart alternated between hate and sadness. But it stuck to sadness.
The type of sadness where she became buried in it.
The type that made one weep with utter depression.
The type... That made no room for hope.
Sophie's tears blurred her eyesight as she sank down onto the warm grass. She heaved her head forward as she covered her eyes with her trembling hands.
She felt somebody plunk down next to her and she held on the person, not caring who it was.
It wouldn't be Keefe.
Keefe was the one who had been willing to sacrifice himself for her.
He was the one who was willing to stand by her side no matter what dangers or humiliation they faced.
He was willing to go through anything to support her.
And now he was gone.
Why had the horrible world repaid him like this?
After all that he had done for her, Sophie needed to save him.
But she wasn't sure if she had enough...
Hope.
Courage.
The willingness to go forward.
"So - Sophie," the person she was holding onto said. Sophie sobbed and forced herself to look up.
It was Fitz.
"I know that you might feel pretty bad right now, but Silveny and Greyfell are..." he stopped like he didn't want to admit what he was about to say.
"What?" Sophie said, her voice coming out crackly and hoarse.
"It looks like they've been shot with black soporodine," Fitz blurted out,
Sophie shot up and ran towards the unconscious alicorns, leaves smacking her on the face, with the wind cooling her damp face.
"Silveny!" she cried, as she buried herself into Silveny's dull white hair. Sophie yanked herself back when she saw a pulsing vein as cold as midnight on Silveny's chest.
"What's happening?" Sophie squeaked out.
"I don't know!" Fitz yelled in her face. Sophie was too numb to even realize that he had gotten angry with her. "Sorry," he said, dragging a hand over his face. "I'm just really tense."
He pointed to Biana slumped over on the grass, eyes closed. Dex, who had bloodshot eyes, and Tam, who had gone unnaturally pale was trying to move her.
"Wh - wh," Sophie tried to grasp a reasonable explanation.
Her mind broke into chaos, with too many worries swirling around.
Was Biana okay?
They didn't even have an antidote for the black soporodine!
What about Sandor?
Keefe.
Her consciousness slipped away, as the last thing she saw was Fitz lunging to catch her.
