"Okay, so what does everybody want to eat?" Sophie asked.
She had gone to Havenfield's living room and found Fitz, Keefe, Biana, Dex, Linh and Tam waiting for her on the couches. Oh. And the Council who were dressed regally. Mr. Forkle and Wraith as well.
"Mallowmelt," Grady responded immediately.
"Ripplefluffs." Tam, Dex, and two of the councillors answered in unison.
"Indigoobers," Bronte replied. Everybody stared at him. "What? I like them." he shot a cold glare at everybody.
"Custard Bursts!" Biana, Linh, Alina, and another councillor exclaimed.
"Butterblasts." Sophie, Keefe, Fitz, Emery and a councillor voted.
"MALLOWMELT!" Everybody else yelled. Grady gave them a funny look.
"Ok, then, I'll ask Edaline to -" Sophie started.
"I premade some." Edaline came into the room, carrying a large tray of mallowmelt.
Everybody dug in.
"So... Ummm," Sophie broke the silence. "I wanted you to come here because.. I needed to tell you something."
Emery nodded. "Go on."
Sophie took some deep breaths before continuing.
"We.. we opened Oralie's cache," Sophie whispered. "And -"
"WHAT?!" Everybody yelled.
The room broke into chaos with the Council screaming and shrieking outrages at everybody, even at each other.
"And..." Sophie continued, dread bubbling up in her stomach. "Oralie's mind broke."
Suddenly, everybody stopped yelling and sat down on the couches, dumbfounded.
"Tell us, Miss Foster," Emery started calmly. "Why? And did she agree to open the cache?"
Sophie nodded, her throat suddenly dry.
"I see." Was all Emery said before closing his eyes.
After endless minutes, he reopened them.
"You have all committed a serious crime," Everybody but the Council started protesting. "But," Emery emphasized. "We believe that you probably did all you could to save Oralie."
Sophie nodded, tears coming out from her eyes.
"So no word of this spreads," Emery continued. "but you have to stop working on the project that required you to open the cache."
