The gleaming light glared into Sophie's eyes, and she started to fall to the ground, arms waving in a circle. It felt like the air was pushing her to the ground, her eyesight was foggy.
Then right before her face unwillingly smacked the floor, something pulled her back up.
She was standing upright like nothing had ever happened before.
Her eyes soon adjusted, to see Biana and Linh looking equally as bewildered, with a group of people standing in tensed positions, surrounding two beds.
"Sophie?!" Livvy exclaimed. She lowered a radiant blue sceptre that was pointed to Sophie. "Sorry! We didn't know if there would be an intruder or not... We've all been paranoid."
Sophie nodded, as she numbly touched her fingers together, to make sure she was still intact.
But what was everybody doing here?
Maybe they were preparing for an attack! Were they not safe here?
Mr. Forkle jogged to Sophie, as Fitz hugged his sister, and Tam hugged Linh. Dex stayed where he was, beside the cots.
"We are all glad you are safe, Miss Foster, but we need to get you behind even safer walls," Mr. Forkle told her. He ordered Fitz, Tam, Biana and Linh to retreat to the back of the room.
Only then did Sophie realize that the room was fairly plain. Plain, even considered for humans.
The room was the size of a classroom, with white walls, and three lonely cots sitting in the corner of the room. There were a dozen shelves stocked with elixirs, placed in front of the walls. Other than that, there was nothing more.
No windows and the light was fairly dim.
Soon, she realized that Sandor was tucked in the corner of the room, brandishing a dagger.
"Nowhere is safe now," Livvy explained. "The Neverseen can strike anywhere, and we will take extra precautions." Sophie nodded, as she noticed that Livvy didn't twine her usual humour in her words. Was the situation that serious? What even was the situation like? Sophie didn't like how she wasn't well informed about it, but she understood that time was of an essence.
When the ogres had attacked Havenfield, Sophie, Edaline, and Grady had gotten refuge at Gildingham. Though everybody believed that it was relatively safe. Several members of the Neverseen had been let loose, yet no one sought safer places to stay in.
They had been through so many hard, dangerous situations, that could risk their presence in a normal area, but how was this one different?
As everybody shuffled to the back, a light beamed from the cot, making everybody freeze.
What?!
Was it an attack?
Who was in the cot anyways?
Dex backed away from the glowing cot, and pressed his hands on the nearest wall, searching for an anchor.
Mr. Forkle shoved Dex farther away from the cot, to where everybody else was standing, and snuck a look inside the cot.
It was Keefe.
No one moved, not even Livvy, as everybody stood, immobilized. Then Sandor rushed towards Sophie, taking out an even larger sword.
"Leap somewhere else." Mr. Forkle mumbled.
Nobody took the lead.
"Livvy, take Elwin with you, help each other!" Mr. Forkle's voice rose up at the end.
