The much awaited weekend came in the blink of an eye.

When Mark had said to celebrate, I thought he meant to grab a drink or something, but based on the text I got that Saturday afternoon, I started to expect things to go a bit differently.

이마크 💚: meet me by the Han river in an hour

It was barely 2 p.m.

I wasn't ready to go out yet, but I couldn't make him wait. It was Mark. We were finally going to have some fun outside of the company, and... he called it a date!

I squealed at my own thoughts and got up to get ready. The apartment had been empty the whole month. Lucas had really kept Naeun all to himself... I couldn't help but be jealous.

She's my best friend. Why can't she stay here with me?

I knew I wasn't being reasonable. After all, they were engaged and I knew they wanted their privacy. Problem was, I didn't have much money saved, and with the lack of working I was doing because of training I could barely hold up the rent.

I won't have to move into a dorm will I?

The thought was making me anxious, but I didn't have time for that. It was the middle of the summer and I was about to see the guy I liked! There was no denying it anymore. I needed to get dressed and go to him.

"Hey!"

"Hey!"

"Hi! You're here," he smiled.

"Yep," I returned the smile, "so, Han river?"

He looked around, almost as if he had forgotten where we were, "ah- yeah... I just needed a place to meet," he took a quick pause before continuing, "have you eaten yet? There's a cool cafe nearby."

"I haven't. Let's go," I happily said and off we went.

The cafe was small, but really nice. The walls were decorated with flower pots and various plants hung from the shelves and lights.

"I'm gonna use the restroom, why don't you order something first?"

"Hello, what can I get for you today?" The barista was really pretty and energetic. I took a quick look at the beverage choices.

What do I ask for? What does he like? I have no idea. Coffee? No, it's 3 p.m. who has coffee at three? Tea? Mm... I guess you can't go wrong with simple tea.

When Mark got back I waved him over to a table where I had our drink.

"Is that for me?" He asked, looking at the cup im front of him. I nodded. "You didn't have to- I mean... I should've paid for it myself," he stammered.

I giggled at his words, "it's okay. I can afford a drink."

He smiled brightly, "thanks." He took a sip and made a funny face, "mmh... is this green tea?"

"Yeah... why? Oh god, you don't like it. I'm sorry! Here have mine," I panicked, sliding my cup across the table. It was simple iced coffee. I thought, maybe he'd like that better, but he shook his head and smiled again.

"It's okay. It's good," he took another sip, "mm! See, I like it."

His acting wasn't convincing at all.

Great going Seyeon.

"Here," he changed the topic, handing me two tickets, "I thought maybe we could watch a movie."

I looked at the papers in my hand.

Action. Yes!

"Do you wanna see it? I should've asked you first... sorry, it's fine if you want to change it."

I shook my head, "no, I love action movies! I've been meaning to watch this since it came out!" I checked the time the movie would start and we only had half an hour, "we should get going."

The atmosphere was perfect. It had been a while since the movie was released, so the theatre was almost empty. Our date was finally going to turn around. I could feel it. I looked at Mark as he intently stared at the screen. His mouth slightly agape at the happenings of the scene in front of him.

I reached in for some popcorn and saw him doing the same. This was it. This was our movie-like moment! We would make eye contact and smile and feel all tingly inside and-

"Waa! Waa!"

I flinched in my seat.

Oh my god. I swear I'm about to turn around and smack that baby in the face!

It was the second time that baby cried during the movie. The mother had already been shushed by others in the room, but no matter how many times she apologized, the baby kept on screaming. The loud bangs coming from the speakers were probably the cause of all its irritation.

Who brings a baby to watch an action film?!

After being called out again, the mother finally stood up and took out the crying infant. I saw Mark looking at me with an awkward expression. I smiled at him, trying to reassure him that I was still enjoying our time together, but as the room finally fell silent—the sounds from the film the only noise—we didn't reach into the popcorn again. At least not at the same time.

After the movie was done we agreed to go for some food. It was getting late and the sun was beginning to set. Mark assured me he knew a great place nearby where he used to go to all the time. When we got there we found out the place had actually closed down a few months prior.

I could see how disappointed he was. The day hadn't gone as he planned at all. First the tea, then the crying baby, and now seating at the nearest Subway...

Mark looked down at his sandwich and took a bite. He was quiet. He seemed sad.

No, I won't let this day get worse. I can't.

"Hey," I spoke, making him look up at me, "I know where we could go," I put on my best, most encouraging smile. Determined I would make the day better. He seemed to question me for a second.

"C'mon! It'll be fun. I promise."
