Chapter 15: Surprise
_____
Two weeks later, after that night when Alec visited my house we decided to meet at the cemetery where his Lolo is buried. He wasn't there during the burial. He just stayed at his house and locked himself inside his room. That day we just talked all day. Im keeping him company. I know he's having a hard time.
He told me he wasn't ready to let go yet. He still couldn't let his grandfather go just like that. We talked about many things including his childhood. And I found out that he's very fond of his grandparents.
He told me that whenever his parents are not around, he would sneak out and visit his grandparents' house. He was close to his grandparents since his parents were pretty busy and always not around. He wasn't also close with his other siblings.
He admired his grandfather because of his great works and hard work. The reason why he wanted to take Med because his grandfather was a great Neurosurgeon. He wanted to be like his grandfather. But he didn't want to disobey and disappoint his parents.
My heart melts everytime he shows me his soft side. He used to be cold, stoic and emotionless. Maybe that was just his defense mechanism. He build up walls to protect himself from being dissapointed. And I'm hoping that I wouldn't dissapoint him in the near future. I know he lowkey trust me. And so do I.
"Lex," I snapped back to reality when he called me.
"Hmmm?" I hummed as a respond without glancing at him.
"Why did he have to go just like that?" He asked out of nowhere.
We're currently here infront of his grandfather's tomb. He was silent the whole time. But now that he finally talked I suddenly know what to say. But I should and I am trying my best to make him feel better.
"I guess, he needs to go already," I answered softly. His eyes remained on his grandfathers'.
"Without even saying goodbye?" His voice trembled.
I sighed and turned my head to look at him, "Will you even let him go if he did?"
He shook his head, "No."
"He didn't bid his goodbye because he was never gone, Gavin" With that he looked at me confused. "He's alive ... here" I pointed his chest where his heart is. "As long as you keep him alive in your heart. He will never be gone, he's always there. The memories you had with him, it'll always be here," I gestured his head. "Keep going, I know he's watching and he'll continue leading you to the path where you should be."
He faced me and gave me a soft smile. "You never fail to enlighten me," I smiled back at him.
"Narinig mo 'yon Lo? Your grandson is whipped" Ani ko na parang kausap ang Lolo ni Alec. "Don't worry Lo, i'll keep him."
He chuckled. "You will?" He asked with a wide grin plastered on his face.
"Should I?" I fired back.
He scowled. "You're not officially mine yet."
I laughed a bit. "Galing mo kase. May pa wait-wait ka pang nalalaman." I spatted.
"I'll wait cause i know it'll be worth it."
"Edi pending muna ang matamis na 'YES' ko." I replied. Natawa lang kaming dalawa.
We're currently making our way towards his car. We didn't came here alone. Sinama n'ya ang driver n'ya. I don't trust his driving skills yet.
I also told mom and dad i'll be visiting the cemetery together with a 'friend' of mine. And they both agreed but they didn't know it was Alec. Di pa nila alam. Not now, but soon.
