CHAPTER 12: SAY YES

Chapter 12: Say yes

Maybe next month during christmas break we will have a vacation in Australia. Alec and his family are planning to go to Japan for the christmas vacation. They'll be staying there 'till new year.

Palabas na ako ng school ng biglang tumunog ang phone ko. Nang nakita kong si Alec ang tumatawag agad kong sinagot.

"Where are you?" He asked.

"Palabas ng school, why?"

"Wait for me there."

"Sige."

At pinutol n'ya ang tawag. I waited for him at the waiting shed. Few minutes later I saw him walking towards my direction. Kinawayan ko siya, ngumiti siya pabalik.

"You need something?" Tanong ko nang makalapit siya.

"We'll go somewhere" Aniya.

Nagulat ako, it's the first that we'll go somewhere that's not inside the campus. Usually kapag uwian na, sabay kaming nag-hihintay sa driver namin. Mag-uusap habang naghihintay then after that we'll go home.

"Where?" Tanong ko sa kanya.

Di n'ya ako sinagot at na unang maglakad. Attitude talaga minsan eh. Umismid lang ako at sumunod sa kanya.

I texted our driver at sinabi na may meeting kami ngayon. I lied, I know. Alangan naman sabihin ko kasama ko crush ko. Charot.

Pumunta kami sa park. It's actually not that far from our school. Umupo s'ya sa isang bakanteng swing. Ako naman sa kabila.

"What are we doing here?" Tanong ko sa kanya.

"I just want to see you."

Bumilis ang tibok ng puso ko sa sinabi n'ya.

"Uh-huh," I answered trying to supress my smile, nag-iwas ako ng tingin.

"Ga-graduate ka na next year,"  I softly said. Nakakalungkot lang isipin dahil magiging busy na s'ya, hindi na kami magkikita, he'll be away.

"But I'll always be here," Sagot n'ya sakin. I pouted.

"I'll visit you," He added. Napatingin ako sa kanya at tinaasan s'ya ng kilay.

"Really?"

He simply nodded and looked away.

"I'll wait for the right time..." He said almost whipering.

"For what?"

"It's nothing." He smiled a bit.

I wanted to ask more but I opt not to. Maybe he's not comfortable with the topic. So I tried to change the topic.

"What course are you planning to take?" I've always wanted to ask him this one. "Law? I know your family owns a big firm and it's great and successful. Your dad is a judge right?"

"Yes, he is and yes, I'm planning to take Law" He answered. I'm not surprised. "Though I really wanted to take med"

My mouth formed 'o' with his answer.

"Why not tell your parents?"

"Nah, I'm cool with Law anyway."

Napatango ako. "I'll take Med." I told him.

"Why?" He asked.

"Because I want to be a doctor," I nonchalantly said.

He chuckled and shook his head.
