LLOYD

Dark Matter.

He used some choice words he picked up from Kai, closing his eyes for a moment as he tried to figure out what he was going to do, his head starting to spin. If he didn't act fast enough, he would be taken over by darkness.

Light. The opposite of darkness is light. The opposite of Destruction is Creation. His mysterious green energy powers are Creation. He summoned some green energy in his hands, the vibrant light licking like fire up his arms and seeming to burn the condensed evil away.

Lloyd felt something come up from behind him and instinctively shot at the Oni who was creeping up behind him. The blast knocked his opponent off its feet, but it absorbed the element with a shiver and got back to its feet. The rest of the Dark Matter it had been carrying spilled onto the deck, some of it dripping over the side of the Destiny's Bounty.

Cursing, Lloyd forced himself upright, ignoring the splitting pain in his abdomen and the dizziness fogging his vision. He gave up on Art of the Silent Fist, throwing more energy at the Oni. He didn't have his sword with him and Wu and Cole couldn't hear him. His only weapon was his own powers, and it almost seemed as if the Art did nothing to the Oni.

His vision suddenly blurred, then focused as a new rage began to burn inside him. He wanted to make the Oni pay. It had hurt his friends and family and was trying to hurt Lloyd, likely to make things more painful for the survivors.

He couldn't let the Oni get away with that.

The Dark Matter hadn't infected him with evil yet, but it was certainly doing something to him.

An orb of Destruction hit Lloyd's left arm and he shrieked in pain as it turned grey, like stone. The force of the hit also sent him flying back, crashing into the mast. His arm twisted the wrong way and he heard a loud crack as he fell on it. With a strained cry, he regained his fighting stance, pressing his broken arm to his chest. He could no longer move it and it felt like someone had smashed it with a sledgehammer.

Harumi lay against the opposite railing. She had a number of injuries to her body and her hair had dried blood matted at the back. She should be dead... but she wasn't.

It could be a trick, Lloyd considered as he was struck with another painful blast to his right hand. It could just be an Oni trying to play with my heart, trying to find a weakness. That last possibility became less probable as he watched her out of the corner of his eye as he defended himself. Harumi looked legitimately hurt, and he didn't think Oni could imitate injuries, but he didn't know for sure.

BAM.

Lloyd screamed as his right leg buckled, his entire leg becoming petrified and grey. The color- or lack of color- was spreading at an alarming speed. He whimpered as the pain spread with it, half of his body practically buzzing as his energy sparked almost like lightning. The Oni came at him, but he rolled out of the way. I need to use Spinjitzu.

He looked down at his body, turning to stone. I don't know if I can even do Spinjitzu in this state. What if it makes it worse?

The Oni lifted its dark blade and stepped forward. Lloyd scrambled in a wide arc, trying to get away from the Oni but only succeeding in getting closer to it and Harumi. Screw it, he told himself as he gritted his teeth against the pain. I've got nothing to lose.

The heavily wounded Green Ninja spun into a lopsided tornado of bright energy, catching the Oni in its spin and sending it flying off the Bounty into the darkness. Lloyd promptly fell out of Spinjitzu, exhausted. He accidentally fell on his left arm with a cry, knowing the broken limb was not going to be healing any time soon.

It was only a slight relief that the Oni was gone. Still, Cole and Wu were safe. Dragging his broken body across the deck, Lloyd made his way towards Harumi.

Something, some instinct, some gut feeling told him that this was the real ex-princess, the real girl who played with his heart, the real young villain that wanted others to suffer because she had to. As he looked at her, he started to see that she wasn't evil. No human was purely evil. Her bad deeds were influenced by her painful past.

It could be his desire to trust getting the best of him. At this point, he hardly cared. He forgave her.

Lloyd pulled himself to sit right next to her and did his best to untie her binds, gasping as the dark ropes burnt his fingers from the cold. He couldn't use his left arm at all, since it was broken and petrified, leaving his right arm free- except that it had been struck by a mass of Dark Matter. Even though the evil substance, by some miracle, didn't come in contact with Lloyd's skin, his shoulder was numb and he didn't feel right.

The moment the binds came off of Harumi's wrists, he tried to throw them away. Because his arms were injured and petrified, his aim was rather off and it fell onto his foot. Yelping, he kicked it away, but the damage had been done-- the solidified Dark Matter had touched a cut on his leg, making direct contact with his bloodstream. It could only take a second for him to become pure evil without a shred of his real self inside.

To his surprise, green energy sparked at his wounds all over his body, making green starbursts that felt like he was getting shocked with lightning. This had only happened once before when Garmadon had attacked Lloyd in what became a nearly fatal battle. Wu said it was his elemental power protecting him from Destruction, and he was thankful for that defense now as it temporarily halted the effects of Destruction and Dark Matter.

Keeping the binds far away from them, Lloyd pressed two fingers on Rumi's wrist, trying to find a pulse. Her breathing was so shallow, he didn't know if she was still alive.

To his relief, he felt a faint heartbeat. Checking her over, it seemed like she had fallen into a coma after getting crushed by a building, mainly due to a massive head injury that he had noticed earlier. She was still alive, but it would be difficult for her to not have lasting brain damage from it.

Lloyd was absorbed in watching Harumi, he forgot for a moment about the Destruction breaking him apart piece by piece. He only remembered what his own body was going through when something disintegrated.

He screamed, more out of shock than pain.

Destruction was in fact destroying him.

Petrified parts of his body were slowly turning into black dust, so fine that it looked like smoke as it drifted idly in the wind. Lloyd had no choice but to watch as his body turned into the clouds of darkness that he was trying to escape from. For some reason, it didn't hurt, but the pain from his other injuries made sure he wasn't entirely painless.

Taking a deep breath suddenly sent a sharp knife of pain stabbing into his lungs, and he resorted to short gasps of air. He could feel his own heartbeat pounding erratically, and his vision kept fuzzing over, as if he was light-headed, though it was far worse than that.

The sky was turning a light blue. Would this be the last thing I ever see? he wondered, forcing his eyes open even though it made his head spin. His own blood on the Bounty, the Dark Matter seeping into the floorboards, himself turning into Darkness, and the sun rising as if it was just a normal Saturday, and Harumi next to him, in a coma-

Suddenly, unexpectedly, the girl's eyes opened.
