The First Christmas Together

Stiles decides that a walk is the best thing to distract him right now, and he slips into the night as silent as death. He debates driving, but he thinks that the walk will do him some good so he slides his keys in his pocket before he walks passed his Jeep. This time of year is always hard for him and his father, his father deals with it by working all Christmas, and Stiles just lets him. Christmas hadn’t been the same since the death of his mother, and Stiles is just now as a teenager starting to enjoy the holidays again.

He would normally like to spend the holiday with Scott and his mother, but Melissa had to work today and Scott was invited to the Argent’s for the holiday. Scott had tried to back out, but Stiles told him profusely that he would be fine. John and Stiles would exchange presents when John got home in the morning, and the rest of the day he would just sleep while Stiles enjoyed his presents. He knew his father was getting him a new computer this year, and Stiles had gotten his father some new clothes.

Stiles walks around the town a bit enjoying the Christmas Eve atmosphere, until he suddenly just wants to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city. He takes a quick right to head towards the trial of the woods, and he zips up his jacket more to fight against the chill. He stomps loudly on the leaves, enjoying the crisp crunching noise they make when he steps on them, and looks at the sky. It is already night time, and Stiles can only see with the light of the half full moon. He breathes out to see his breath fog over, and he misses his mother with a pang.

He wonders when he will stop missing her, and when his father will. He doesn’t hear anything as a few tears drip out of his eyes until he hears someone clear their throat loudly. Stiles whips his head around to see Derek Hale standing a few feet to his right with his trademark frown. “You know this is private property.” Derek says, and Stiles snorts. Stiles isn’t sure what he thinks of Derek anymore, to be honest the man still terrifies him, but he is pretty sure that Derek wouldn’t hurt him.

“Yeah, sorry about that.” Stiles says, and Derek takes a few steps forward cautiously. Stiles just watches him with his eyebrow raised until he sits back down on the rotting log that he was minding his own business on.

“You smell lonely and sad.” Derek says, and Stiles snorts wetly.

“I didn’t know loneliness had a smell.” Stiles says, and Derek’s frown deepens.

“It does and it stinks.” Derek complains, and Stiles snorts again before he stands up on his feet to brush the dirt off his ass.

“Well, I don’t want to stink up your forest then.” Stiles says, and he takes off in the other direction back towards his house.

“I didn’t mean leave.” Derek says, quietly and Stiles turns around to look at him. Stiles check his watch before he gives Derek a small smile.

“Nah, got to get home anyway it’s almost one in the morning.” Stiles says, and Derek nods his head once before heading in the other direction towards his burnt out family home. “Merry Christmas, Derek.” Stiles whispers, and Derek stops for second but he keeps walking away.

The Second Christmas Together

Stiles wipes his eyes as he drives down to Derek’s loft, and he is probably too tired to be driving. Scott had asked everyone come to his house for Christmas since the loss of Allison was still fresh on everyone’s mind. He hadn’t been able to sleep for so long, and he knows his father is worried. He pulls the Jeep into a parking space, and he drags himself up the stairs to Derek’s loft.
