ADALINE'S POV
Our time in California had been absolutely amazing. Julie and Blake has shown us so much, took us so many places, and introduced us to different people—my favourite one being Carol Burnett. We only had a few more days left in the states. The two of us are considering extending our trip after debating getting ourselves a house somewhere out here—we plan on going to look tomorrow. But for now, today both families were spending the day at the beach.
"Mummy, look at me!" Mady yelled as she and Matt ran in the sand, kicking around a beach ball.
"That looks like so much fun!" I smiled and waved at them.
Emma ran over to them and started to play too, Paul and Blake were sitting with their feet in water, Geoff and Jenny were building sandcastles, and Julie and I were laying by the umbrella.
"So how often do you all go to Scotland?"
"We try to every month or so. Not as much lately. It's so nice to escape there. Next time you all come to England you'll have to come! I was talking to Jenny about it the other day and she said she wants to try horseback riding. It's so much fun and I bet she'll enjoy it."
"She did mention something at dinner the other night. She seems so excited. Blake and I told the kids we'll probably go back to London for a bit sometime this year. It all depends on our work schedules."
"Oh, please let us know when you do. We'd love to have you all over." I looked over at the kids as the built sandcastles and chased around a beach ball. "Mady's had such a wonderful time with Emma. I know it'll be hard for her when we go back home."
"I've been thinking the same thing..."
"I was thinking. Maybe it's a stupid idea, but what if once we go back home and the girls are missing each other we have them be pen pals? Of course Mady's a little young to write a letter, Paul, Rose or I would help her of course, but it could be fun for them. We could take pictures of fun things we've been doing and then send it in a letter to the other one. We could have them all, of course too. I just thought this would be something fun they could look forward too once everyone goes back home."
"Oh, Adaline, I think that's a wonderful idea!" Julie grinned. "I bet the girls would love it. Emma would be so excited to get mail. And who knows, maybe they would continue this over the years. We definitely should have them do this."
"Fab! I'll make sure to leave you our London and Sussex addresses."
"Oh, they're both going to love this." She smiled. She then looked over at Mia who was asleep next to me on the towel. "She's slept almost the whole time."
"I know, I'm shocked! I guess that's a good thing though. We were up a lot last night."
"Mummy!" I heard two little voices yell as they ran over. "We gonna build sandcastles!"
"Are you? That sounds like fun!" I smiled and went into our beach bag. "Here's your pail and shovels. Daddy's a great sandcastle maker, maybe he'll help you."
"Daddy!" Matt took his pail and ran off. Mady looked over at Mia and then at me. "Why Mia sleeping? She missin' the fun!"
"Mia and Mummy didn't sleep good last night, so Mia needs to sleep today."
"Ohh otay." She then gave Mia a quick kiss before running off with the others.
"She's absolutely darling. She's such a great big sister."
