Chapter 17

20 April 1971

PAUL'S POV

Today Addie and Michael finally get to come home. The doctor had them stay an extra few days for testing and after getting the all clear we finally were on our way home.

Addie had been rather quiet all day. As expected, all of this was such an overload for her. She had broken down the other night talking to the kids on the phone and when Liz had come to see her. I could tell she was lost in her thoughts.

"So I was thinking of cooking your favourite for dinner tonight. How does that sound?"

She just smiled at me, giving a small nod as she looked out the window. A few minutes later we finally arrived home.

"We're home, love."

Addie looked nervously at the house and then down at Michael. Getting out of the car, I went over to her side and opened the door. "Why don't I take the baby?"

She shook her head and took my hand as I helped her out of the car. We slowly made our way to the door and as soon as we opened it we were met by the kids.

"Mummy!" They ran over and hugged her legs tightly.

"Be careful, kiddos. Mummy's still recovering from her surgery." Rose reminded them.

"I missed you all so much..." She finally speaks.  "Oh, I'm so glad to be home..." She then looked at Rose. "Thank you so much for watching them today."

"You're welcome. Oh, it's so wonderful for you all to be home again."

"Mummy! Mummy! I wanna see the baby." Mady yelled.

"Mummy..."Matt tugged on her dress. 

"Kiddos you have to be careful. Mummy's very sore from her surgery."

"Sorry Mummy..."

"It's okay, my loves. Come here." She went into the living room and sat down with the baby. They all climbed up next to her and looked at him. "This is your baby brother, Michael."

"Mummy?"

"Yes baby?"

"Why you and Daddy name him after Uncle Mikey?" Mady asked.

"Because it's something nice to do and we liked the name. Your Daddy is named after Papa."

"But who I named after?"

"Each of you kids are named after someone." I started. "Madelynn, you have the middle name Mary after my mum, Matt's middle name is James after Papa and I, and Mia's middle name is Elizabeth after Grammy."

"Ohh." She nodded and looked at me. "Daddy, where your Mummy at?"

Addie quickly looked up at me, taking my hand and squeezing it tightly.

I sat down on the couch and pulled Mady into my lap. "My Mummy, your grandma, she passed away when I was a boy. When your Mummy was pregnant with you she thought it would be nice for us to name you after her."

All she did was smile and lay her head on me.

Mia crawled closer to Addie, looking up and over at the baby. Michael let out a small cry, startling her and causing her to cry too.

"Oh Mimi, it's okay. Come here." I went to pick her up as she quickly started fussing and clung to Addie. "Mama..."

"It's okay, peanut. The baby didn't mean to startle you." Addie rubbed her back. "I think he's getting fussy because he's ready for a nap."
