The final interview

After my prep team leave, I get to take a look at myself in the mirror.

I  do look really young. I'd always looked about fourteen instead of twelve, but now I looked at the most eleven. The dress was truly beautiful, covered in tiny pink sequins. They twinkled in the light whenever I moved.

"Come on Misty" Effie calls into the room. "We haven't got all day!"

Today I am going to have my final interview, be crowned victor and them I'm getting outta here.

"Please give a loud cheer for the 74th Annual Hunger Games Victor, Misty Gray!!!' I hear Caesar Flickerman announce.

Effie stops fussing over my hair, Haymitch gives me a nod and I walk onstage.

The room fills with hundreds of hands clapping, people cheering and whistling. It's a deafening roar. I sit down and immediately there is silence all around the room.

I gaze out at the sea of Capitol people. They seem proud of me but it's for the wrong reason. I killed people. I caused other people's deaths. I came out of a battlefield where others fell. Children whom had only just begun their lives.

"Welcome Misty!" Caesar greets me.

I nod him and he asks me various questions.

What was it like?

Who were my allies?

What mainly happened?

Did I enjoy myself?

How many people did I kill?

The responses in my head were:

It was torture

The careers mostly

Innocent children died

You idiot don't even ask

3 and I also killed a mutt

Instead I replied like I was supposed to.

"Well, it was quite scary but I'm glad I'm alive. I hope never to go through that again, still I'm glad I'm talking to you just now".

Caesar nods. I continue.

"My allies were the careers. I didn't think they would accept me into their pack and Glimmer certainly hated me. I did develop a close friendship with Cato and Clove. Also I'm sorry I couldn't save any of them."

"The things that mainly happened were mostly trying to stay alive".

The crowd laugh at that and I clench my fists. That wasn't meant to be funny.

"Oh by the way, I didn't enjoy it at all, although I did pick up a few skills. I killed three people. I killed Thresh because he was going to kill Cato. Then near the end I killed Glimmer because she killed Clove and was going to kill Cato. Then I killed Cato because he asked me and he was going to die so I made it quick".

I'm quite out of breath by then. Luckily all that's left to do is be crowned Victor. I leave the stage and walk back to Effie, Lula and Haymitch.

President Snow places the crown on my head and I give him a steely look.

"Miss Gray, I'm not pleased with your performances in the arena". He seems very angry.

"Same here with yours". I mutter.

"That wave was created to get rid of you. If you don't play by the rules you die". Snow says, raising his voice.

"I didn't check the rulebook". I reply sarcastically. I know I'm talking to a merciless killer. This isn't good.

"You have a spark. A spark can light a fire. There's already a rebellion. I don't want another or I'll have to terminate your district, just like we did with district 13".

I gasp. No...no! He wouldn't do that.

Yes he would.
