Chapter 1: Nightmares

Your P.O.V

It always started out like this.... I was walking through the forest with a bag slung over my shoulder, a little girl who was about 6 was walking right next to me. I smiled at her, she had shoulder length black hair, brown eyes, and tan skin. I caught sight of my reflection in a puddle, I had long (h/c) hair that reached my lower back and was in a low ponytail, (e/c) eyes that shone bright in the sunset light, and (s/c) skin. It began to get dark and I got worried, "(y/n)? Are we going to be able to make it back to the village in time?" The little girl asks. I look at her and smile, "Don't worry Beth. We're gonna arrive a bit late but it's not much farther."

Beth held tight to my leg, "But night time is when the yokai come out. I don't want to see any yokai. They're scary." she says.

I smile at her and kneel down to her height and give her a hug, "How do you know yokai are scary if you've never seen one before? Don't worry... If a yokai does come there's no way I'll let it hurt you." I stand up and take her hand and we continue walking. It was growing darker by the second, I knew what was coming next...

A little boy ran up to us, his feet were bruised and covered in cuts, his arms were dirty with many scrapes as well as his face, "Wait!" he says coming up to us. "You can't come back to the village (y/n)! There are yokai everywhere! They're looking for you!"
My eyes grow wide and I gripped Beth's hand a little tighter. "(Y/n)?" She questions.

"Then if it's me they want, it's me they'll get." I say.

I was a puppet... I couldn't control my movements... 'Don't do it... Don't help the boy.. He's one of them!'
I picked up the boy and ran as fast as I could with him on my left arm and Beth's hand in my right hand. I ran to a little abandoned shack just outside the village, I set the boy down inside, "Beth, you help him with his injuries ok?"

Beth nods, "What are you gonna do (y/n)?" she asks.

I look inside a closet and take out a katana most likely put there by me, "I'm going yokai hunting." I rush out of the shack and run to the village.

As soon as I get there I see yokai running after my friends and family, threatening to kill them if they didn't answer their questions. I draw the katana from its shieth and hold it by my side, "HEY!!" I yell.

All eyes were on my, some of the villagers were smiling in relief others were wide eyed in surprise. The yokai all stopped what they were doing and smiled evilly, "There a reason you're trashing my village?!" I ask angrily.

One of the yokai walked closer to me, "We are looking for you." it says. It looked like a goblin, green skin, pointed ears, red eyes, and pointed teeth.

My grip tightened on the sword handle, "Come with us and we'll leave them all alone." The goblin says.

I look at everyone in the village, some were begging me not to, others didn't speak. I look back at the yokai/goblin, mischief was obvious in his eyes, "Why the hell would I go with you when I know you're LYING!?!?!" I yell.

I leap forward with my katana in hand, with one quick move the yokai was cut clean in half and turned to dust. All the yokai then went to attack me, I flipped, kicked, dodged, and sliced through all the yokai. A sudden scream could be heard, I was in the middle of killing another yokai, my eyes widened in fear, "BETH!!!" I scream.

I immediately start running for the shack, I burst through the door to find a deformed yokai cornering Beth. It was a big gray blob that slightly resembled a slug, I take my katana and slice right through it, but it just molded back together taking me by surprise. Before it had a chance to attack I stab it multiple times but it didn't appear to affect it, "Nothings working on this thing... Beth! What happened to the boy?"
